Day 19: Free pass
I was transferring some binders to a better box than I’d packed them in yesterday, when I found it.
How could I forget it? I wondered.
I’d gotten a Canada 150 Discovery Pass, for free entry into any national park. Thinking, at the time, that I’d never actually get to use it, I’d squirrelled it away in a binder . . . until good fortune smiled upon me and I found it by chance.
Guess who’s going to be detouring to some national parks???

The incredibly work-related April is upon us! April always is the month that murders us at my work, so if it gets a little sporadic in the next few weeks, I apologize in advance. However, it has been a whirlwind of busy for the first quarter of 2017. However, everything’s been going pretty great. Canada’s 150th birthday gift to you: Free pass to national parks all year long
On July 1, 2017, Canada turns 150 years old. Kicking off the festivities on New Year’s Day, the stewards of the country’s protected natural treasures, Parks Canada, has a gift for all: a free, multiuse pass to the country’s 47 national parks and national park reserves. Parks and reserves, which indicate areas earmarked as national parks pending native land claim settlements, are located in every…

On my way back from visiting dear daughter, I stopped at Olmstead Place State Park outside of Ellensburg (921 Ferguson Road, Ellensburg, WA 98926). I was pretty excited to be able to use my Discover Pass, but I didn’t spend too much time since I was worried (rightfully so) about snow on the Pass. The park has 217 acres and plenty of pioneer artifacts. Perhaps my favorite part was the red winged blackbirds. There was an entire flock of them on the overhead wires. More information can be found here.
