Thoughts on Raya and the Last Dragon (part 5)
Sisu seems to be a legendary being, so we have another legend that lives for a really long time (how much dragons live on this universe?)
Apparently, she made important deeds on the past that made her gain the statues of LEGEND.
But when the summoning takes place.... (also, water magic? I want to see that!)
Sisu seems to be in a bad place, since she’s not as great as the legend says she is. She’s old, wise, and all that, but not powerful among dragons. She is clearly upset to be a deception for Raya, maybe she feels like that. We have a character that has to burden a tittle she doesn’t feel worthy of, because she didn’t do all those things alone, but now she is, and she feels hopeless and she’s like the opposite of Maui.
I mean, look at this, her own experience gives Raya the guidance Raya needs, while Moana had to pull Maui together in all the senses, and after all that, Moana did most of the job. Here, we have an old and wise dragon who, despite she doesn’t feel fits for the quest, she is more inclined to do something, and will provide the protagonist of something more than sailing lessons. The dragon does have a role to play in all this. She even is a wanted person in the opposite side (along with Raya, but that’s still a question that I have no answer for, unless they think Raya is a master or companion of the dragon so they work as a package...).
But she’s still a DRAGON (MIST BREATH!!!!!!! fuck you, mist dragon from Final Fantasy IV!)
So this is how assian dragons fly! Or just Sisu, maybe. Sisu jumps on the water she condenses to travel.
Now more for Sisu’s relationship with Raya. Same as with Maui, Raya will have to help Sisu to develop Sisu’s power with the gems, so they can get to perform the magic they need after the training.
This shot gives me vibes of the ending. Bear hug!
And... what do I think of Sisu as a character?
Well... yes, her eyes do look like Elsa’s, but between Disney princesses, all eyes are kind of alike, in fact, you only think of that because she also has blue all over her, same as Elsa. But I don’t think bad of that. Yes, it’s true they could have give her a not that much friendly looking dragon with Disney princess eyes, but, as a matter of fact, I WANT TO GIVE SISU AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE HOW HER OLD, ECCENTRICAL, UPBEAT AND WISE CHARACTER IS.
