“You don’t understand this yet, but people need you. So let’s get back to work.” -Tadashi Hamada
This is me trying to expand my healthcare matrix as a paramedic student. Thought I’d share a little of myself beyond the BH6 fanart and fanfiction, by instead sharing BH6 wisdom known as practicing the “Art of Failure Mode”
COVID has affected a lot of educational programs, including those who are continuing down the line of healthcare. Less in-person interactions allowed means that we have to squeeze in more training faster when we can meet up, that includes learning skills like starting IV’s.
It’s something I’ve dreaded and looked forward to for a long time. And we jumped from manikin to live within hours. And I was terrified, not so much of the procedure but of failure. And when came to it, I missed my first live stick... But oddly it felt ok. Can’t always get it right the first few times. After all, it took Tadashi 84 test trials to get Baymax functioning.
In the pic of myself, it shows my successful attempt on a difficult stick (veins weren’t visible, only could be lightly felt). It was messy and wasn’t perfect, but I made it. And that was because I couldn’t let my previous attempt affect me and focused on what was at hand. Tadashi sure didn’t allow his previous test to stop him from trying again, even if they got him feeling down.
So, just a friendly reminder that in these difficult times, whatever is going on in your life, know that you can fall and keep getting back up. Enter failure mode, learn from it and reset. You’ll have your breakthroughs, I promise.
