What you think archival research will be: immediate amazing discoveries about exactly what you’re working on
What archival research actually is: well now I want to know about all of the socks that the Archbishop of Florence sent to the Pope in 1512.

dissertation is one document and ready to be sent to committee. good night.
Thursday afternoons for class prep and abstract drafts.
brick by brick
physically, i am trying to write a dissertation proposal. mentally, i am in italy with andrew garfield.
My tags on that last reblog were mostly joking but honestly the most soul-pulverizing thing about trying to write this stupid dissertation is the knowledge that virtually no one, in the grand scheme of things, is ever going to read it no matter how much love and effort I put into writing it.
so here's chunk that I really like:
because I can’t focus on one thing for long periods of time, I’ve noticed that I tend to have a lot of projects going on at once that I focus on for a little bit each day or every few days. I write a little bit here, read a little bit there, embroider something maybe once per week. it’s the same with work projects, too, unfortunately, which is proving difficult for the dissertation.
