Prompt: I’d be so lost if you left me alone.
Pronouns: They/Them
Words:1395
Warnings: cursing (Not really bad but small fight like cursing)
Summary: Y/N and Eric get into a fight and they leave to go stay at friends for the night.
You walked into your’s and Eric’s shared apartment. The moment you opened the door you were instantly filled with a large sense of irritation at the messy apartment. You had asked Eric to pick up his clothes and move the dirty coffee mugs to the sink. To your dismay, there were now more dirty clothes and another coffee mug on the table. You sighed irritatedly, then started to pick everything up. This wasn’t the first time you asked him to help you something around the apartment, in which he completely ignored. You mentioned before how he doesn’t help you when you ask, in which he half-assed an apology before going back to the way he was before.
It took you about an hour and a half to clean the whole apartment. You did the cups, laundry, and vacuumed the rooms. Eric still wasn’t home when he usually was, but you were too annoyed to call him. You just decided to go to bed and figure it out tomorrow. You fell asleep pretty quickly, but got woken up around 1 am due to Eric stumbling through the door. You hoped that he just tripped over something and not that he was drunk. It wasn’t common for him to come home drunk, but some nights he did when he would go to the bar with Max.
You listened as he walked in, cursing quietly when he would shut a cupboard too loudly. A few minutes later you heard him walk into the bedroom and get undressed. The bed dipped as he climbed in beside you. Instead of turning to curl up next to him, you stayed on your side with your back to him. He didn’t seem to notice, or even if he did he didn’t say anything about it. The next morning you got up and got dressed for the day. You were planning on going shopping for groceries and everything, but the universe had other things planned. You were putting up the dried dishes when Eric walked in.
“Morning.” He greeted sitting down at the bar.
“Morning.” You replied in a monotone voice.
“What’s wrong?” He asked slightly concerned.
“Nothing.” You muttered to yourself trying not to start a fight.
“Somethings wrong.” He stated.
“Did you forget something?” You asked.
He was quiet for a few moments. “It’s not an anniversary, is it? It's not your birthday, because that’s still a few months away.”
“It’s not an occasion, but I asked you yesterday to help me out a bit because I was going to be coming home late. I had a meeting with Four and I asked you to pick up your clothes and the coffee mugs, but when I got home they were all in the same spot, plus more. I just asked for one simple thing and you couldn’t even do that.” You basically ranted.
“Sorry, but I’m busy too you know. I had a long meeting with Max. So, I didn’t come home until 1 in the morning.” He replied. This set you off a bit.
“Eric, I don’t appreciate you lying to me like that, especially to my face. I know damn well you came home drunk. You stumbled through the door, didn’t do anything else besides slam cupboards in the kitchen, and you smelt like whiskey.” You fought back.
“Okay. Fine. You got me. I was drunk. I’m sorry for lying, but you were getting so annoyed. I don’t want you getting mad.” He tried to justify.
“Eric, I’m already mad. Not even about the lying, but mainly because you completely ignored me asking you a simple favor.” You ranted to him.
“Can you just calm down.” He said rubbing his head like he had a headache. That’s when you lost it.
“Nevermind, Eric. You don’t ever seem to care.” You muttered walking back into your bedroom. Eric didn’t try to stop you or say anything back.
You grabbed your phone and texted Four, your brother.
You: Four, can I stay with you for a while?
Four: Yes, did Eric do something to you?
You: He is just being a pain in the ass and I am tired of it.
Four: Sure.
You grabbed your backpack and threw in some of your clothes and necessities, before walking out of the bedroom. Eric was sitting at the kitchen bar with his head in his hands. You didn’t say anything to him as you walked out the door. You slammed the door as you walked out. He didn’t try to ask where you were going or anything.
You walked to Four’s apartment, where he was waiting for you. He opened the door letting you in. You dropped your bag on the ground by the door before turning to Four. “He’s such an asshole, you know?”
“I know. That’s why I told you to be careful around him. What happened anyways?” He questioned.
“I asked him to pick up his clothes and put the coffee mugs in the sink and he completely ignored me. That’s not even the first time. Every time I ask him to do something around the apartment he never does it.” You paced back and forth. “To make all matters better, this morning at 1 am he stumbled through the door drunk. He was stumbling through the house, slamming cupboards and everything. This morning when I brought it up to him he just pushed it off and tried to lie to me. He tried to tell me that he had a meeting with Max that was so long he didn’t get home until 1 in the morning.”
“You can stay here as long as you need.” Four explained.
“Thank you.” You were honestly thankful that you had him around.
It was now a week after you and Eric broke up. You haven’t talked to him since you walked out the door. He was starting to come into work smelling of alcohol. He seemed to be taking this either really hard or really well. It was on a Friday when you noticed him watching you, which you easily learned to ignore. You’d be lying if you said it didn’t affect you, because in all honesty you were hurt a lot too. The rest of your day went by pretty quickly, which you were thankful for.
That night you and Four were having dinner. There was a little bit of small talk, but neither of you felt like really talking. That’s when there was a knock on the door. Four stood up and walked over to the door leaving you in the kitchen. You didn’t think anything of it until you heard Four getting mad.
“Eric, they don’t want to see you. Go away.” Four growled.
“Listen I just need to talk to them. Get out of my way.” A familiar voice demanded.
You walked up to the door. Four was standing in the doorway creating a barrier. “Four, just give us a minute.” You muttered. Four looked down at you before hesitantly moving away.
“I just need to tell you something. You don’t have to come back or forgive me. I just need to get this off of my chest. I’m here to tell you how I’d be so lost if you left me alone, Y/N. You have been gone for a full week and I have been an absolute mess without you. I love you so much and I promise I’ll change. I’ll be a better person and everything. Please just take my stupid ass back.” He cried you could see how swollen his eyes were from crying. You nodded your head. You wanted him back so badly. You forgave a few days ago, everything was just in the heat of the moment which is why you left. It broke your heart to see him like this.
You ran into his arms, where he hugged you as tightly as he could manage. It was as if you would disappear if he didn’t.
“I’m so sorry.” He whispered into your hair. “I love you so damn much, Y/N. Please never leave me again.”
“I promise.” You whispered back.
That night you moved back home with Eric. There were barely any fights between the two of you after that too. Neither of you wanted to risk losing the relationship, so neither of you got mad and upset over small things.

@buried-in-books I figured you may like this I don’t know. It’s pretty short.
Prompt: I don’t need you yelling at me
Words: 621
Warnings: Yelling, cursing
Pronouns: they/them
Summary: Y/N couldn’t take it anymore. All Eric did was yell at them. They weren’t even an initiate anymore they had got through the ranking already and Eric was still treating them like children. Until they finally had enough.
“Hey! You’re late.” Eric’s loud voice boomed through the pit. A group of new initiates turned and looked at the two of you. You rolled your eyes and walked to stand beside him.
“Yeah, only by 30 seconds, so chill.” You muttered crossing your arms.
“Don’t talk to me like that.” He demanded.
“Oh sure but it’s alright for you to talk to me like that?” You asked. You could feel the stares you were getting from the initiates. You turned towards them and moved your hand telling them to get to training. “Don’t let us bother you. Go on.” You demanded. They all turned away and started with the punching bags.
“They aren’t going to respect you if you aren’t ever on time.” Eric pressed.
“Oh really. Because they totally respect you know.” You said sarcastically. “They don’t respect you, Eric. They fear you, There’s a difference.”
“They respect me! You did when you were an initiate.” He explained.
“No, Eric. You just got on my nerves. The only reason I used to listen to you was that if I didn’t you’d either kick me out or throw me over the chasm. So, don’t flatter yourself.” You snapped back.
“I don’t need you talking to me like this!” He yelled.
“Yeah, and I sure as hell don’t need you yelling at me.”
“I don’t need your constantly trying to tell me what to do.”
“Well maybe somebody should.”
“Maybe you can just go back to Candor.”
“Maybe you can just go back to hell.”
“I don’t need you here.”
“You seem to need someone to watch you and make sure you’re doing your job.”
“I’m good at my job.”
“Yeah, when you’re not trying to kill kids.”
“I didn’t kill you when I trained you.”
“Maybe you should have.”
“Why would I have done that? You got top of your ranks. I figured you’d be smarter than this.”
“Now I’m stupid for fighting back? I’m in Dauntless Eric! This is literally my job.”
“This is my job.”
“Now I’m taking over.”
You don’t know what you’re doing.”
“You don’t seem to know what to do either, Eric.”
“Just shut up already, Y/N.”
“Make me.”
Without another word, he pressed his lips to your lips. You gasped in shock. You felt him smile at your reaction. You kissed him back roughly. This was definitely not how you had planned your day, but you weren’t complaining. The kiss seemed to go on forever, but neither of you wanted it to end, so it didn’t.
It kept going until someone cleared their throat. The two of you pulled apart to see Four standing there looking agitated.
“Seriously? Get back to work.” He muttered before walking off.
You looked back up at Eric who was smiling smugly. You also noticed a few initiates watching in shock. You turned towards Eric before pulling him down back to your lips. You pulled away, as he stared at you intently. You smiled before turning away and looking back at the initiates.
“Alright, everyone partner up. Alesia and Dominic in the ring. The rest of you team up and practice.” You shouted at them. You watched as they all turned away and did as they were told.
You felt Eric’s arms wrap around your shoulders. He reached down and tried to kiss you again but you stopped him. You turned to face him and pulled his head down and pressed your forehead against his. You gently rubbed your lips across his barely touching. Until pulling away and walking over to the ring, leaving him standing there watching you.
“This game isn’t over yet.” He smirked over at you as he walked up.
“It is for you, Coulter.”

You and Eric got together around 8 years ago but happened to break up about 4 years ago. You guys had a stupid fight about something that you can’t even remember now. You guys were so in love with each other, but it seemed with every fight there was more tension. Finally, you had decided enough was enough and ended the relationship. It killed the both of you, but you stood by your decision.
Around a year after that, you got into a relationship with a really sweet guy. He was a tattoo artist alongside Tori. Tori is actually the one who introduced you to him. Now the two of you are getting married. It’s not going to be a huge extravagant wedding. It's just going to be held in the pit with all of Dauntless faction invited. You weren’t even going to be wearing any white, you were going to stay with the Dauntless colors and wear black.
Today was the day of your wedding and you were pretty excited along with your fiance. You were in the empty tattoo shop with Tori getting ready. Everything was put on hold for today, which was Max’s present to the two of you. Tori was helping you get ready to walk down the aisle.
“Are you ready?” Tori asked smiling. She seemed to be just as excited as you were for this.
“Yeah, as ready as I’ll ever be.” You nervously laughed. You could hear everyone down in the pit.
“You’ll do great.” She smiled patting your shoulders. You met her eyes and smiled at her. She pulled you into a tight hug. “I’m so happy for you Y/N.”
“Thank you, Tori. Really, thank you for everything. Helping me put this whole thing together and even introducing us.” You thanked her.
“Anything for you.”
You sighed nervously before turning to the door ready to walk out. Tori opened the door for you and you walked out. You walked down the hallway to the tone of the distant music. You rounded one of the corners to the pit where everyone was sitting. You smiled at you fiance, Leo. He smiled the kindest most genuine smile he could towards you. Every time you saw him you got butterflies in your stomach.
You walked past a bunch of familiar and unfamiliar faces in the crowd and towards the love of your life. When you saw Eric sitting in the front row among the other leaders you could honestly say you were shocked. You hadn’t given him much thought lately on whether or not he’d be there. You were just caught up in wedding rehearsals and etc. You didn’t think any further into and walked up to Leo. You stood in front of Leo as Jack Kang, the leader of Candor started the wedding speech.
You both said your vows and I do’s, then Jack announced that you guys could kiss and Leo grabbed you in his arms kissing you passionately. The two of you were now married and Leo was now your husband. You were so incredibly happy that this day finally came and now a whole future awaited you.
The wedding was over which also meant that there was going to be a large after party/ reception. You were pretty excited for too. You and Leo lead the way into the cafeteria where the reception would be held. Speeches were made by Tori, Four and Max. While the speeches were going on, the drinks were served. You and Leo were seated in the very first table facing both the table and the crowd. Leo ended up excusing himself while dinner was served, you assumed he was just going to be restroom or something.
***
Leo walked down the hall and towards the chasm, where he would like to sit and think. He sat there staring at the water trying to grasp everything that just happened in the past couple of hours. He looked up as he noticed footsteps making their way towards him. It was Eric. He knew who Eric was, but they never had a conversation. He knew enough about Eric and that he was your Ex but nothing more than that.
Eric sat down next to Leo. “Congratulations,” Eric said staring at the rushing water below.
“Thanks, man. It’s kind of surreal, ya know?” Leo said.
“Yeah. I know the feeling. They seem really happy.” Eric admitted. “I’m glad someone was finally able to do that for them.” Eric smiled sadly.
“Hey, I know we don’t really know each other, but you made them happy too,” Leo explained looking over at Eric.
“I’d hope so. I know this isn’t my place, but I’m slightly drunk and don’t really care, but you know they still mean the world to me.” Eric explained. “Don’t hurt them like I did.”
Leo didn’t know how to respond, but another sound of footsteps rounded the corner. Eric and Leo both looked up to see you walking up to them. “Leo, what are you doing? Eric?” you asked looking between both of them.
“Sorry I just needed a second to breathe. I was getting overwhelmed. I’m so happy.” Leo smiled. You smiled at him as he pulled you closer.
“Y/N.” Eric smiled awkwardly walking past you guys.
“Eric.” You called after him. Eric just kept walking, pretending he didn’t hear you. He was afraid if he turned around you’d be able to see the pain in his eyes. He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to hold himself back and would do something stupid. You turned to Leo confusedly.
“He probably didn’t hear you. He was that he was tired and was about to head back to his place to go to bed. We should go back. What’s a party when the people it's meant for aren’t even there?” Leo asked.
You agreed and walked with Leo back to the reception, but for some reason, you couldn’t get the thought of Eric out of your head.

Prompt: God, I can’t do this with you anymore
It’s strange, how I’ve finally got something to lose and the first thing you do is hold it against me.
Words:768
Warnings: angst
Pronouns: They/Them
Summary: Y/N and Peter have been together since your guys time in Candor. It was all going great until all he seemed to care about was the ranks. It was unhealthy, it got to be too much when he pulled Y/N into it.
You had been with Peter since Candor and the two of you had both decided on Dauntless. You thought it was fate. The two of you never mentioned that you both wanted to go into Dauntless. You weren’t even sure you knew until you were standing in front of the bowls. You felt relieved, the moment your blood sizzled on the burning coals. You turned and sat with your new faction and had completely zoned out until you heard his name.
Peter Hayes
You looked up to see Peter walk down the aisle towards the 5 large bowls. He looked straight forward and grabbed the knife from Marcus. You couldn’t tell what he picked until you heard the sizzling of his blood on the hot coals.
Dauntless
They announced loudly, as Peter walked towards your guy's new faction. You sat in the front row and watched as Peter walked over and sat next to you. Without saying a word you reached your hand out and wrapped it around his. He intertwined his fingers with yours and the two of you sat there quietly until it was time to go. Everything was fine for a short while until rankings became a big thing. You watched as the dauntless leader, Eric, explained how the initiation was going to work. At the end of every week, there will be ranks, the bottom ten are cut and will become factionless, while the rest work to become the best. Peter took that a little too seriously.
You knew how important the rankings were, hell they were all you could think about. Peter though, took it a bit too far. He would destroy everyone who got in his way. It was fine until that person was you. It started out with small things like making you late, which lead to you getting in trouble, then it escalated. The main problem was that the rankings were very important to you too, but Peter only cared about himself.
You were talking to Molly one afternoon about something that Peter said was coming up. He said that he heard Eric talking to Four about the family day. Peter said that it got moved up a few days. He said it was 3 days away rather than the 6 days it originally was. When Molly said that it never changed, you started to get suspicious. You decided it was time to ask Four about is, since was the most approachable. Four annoyedly explained how it hasn’t changed and that you shouldn’t believe everything you’re told. One thing you realized was that Peter clearly didn’t belong in Candor if he could lie so well.
Needlessly to say, you were pretty pissed. After training one day, you had planned to just leave and go have dinner with Molly and some other friends. This did not go according to plan. Peter noticed the tension and decided to confront you about it. Apparently, he was brave and stupid.
“Y/N, can we talk?” He asked catching up to you.
“No, but I feel like we are going to anyway.” You muttered and continued walking down the hall.
“What’s your problem, Y/N?” He asked annoyed.
“What’s my problem? You are, Peter. You are.” You snapped.
“What did I do? Why are you always so emotional?” He angrily asked.
“God, I can’t do this with you anymore, Peter.” You almost yelled.
“You can’t do what anymore, Y/N?” He asked.
“It’s strange, how I’ve finally got something to lose and the first thing you do is hold it against me. “ You explained irritated.
“I’m not. Y/N. I didn’t mean to. Listen I’m sorry.” He stumbled over his words.
“I don’t think you mean it, Peter.” You denied his apology.
“I don’t lie-” He started but he stopped when he saw the look you were giving him.
“Peter, don’t.” You started. He reached out to grab your hands, but you pulled them away. “I can’t forgive you for this, Peter. You do this now, so what’s going to stop you in the future?” You asked.
“I can change.” He tried to plead with you, but you shook your head in response.
“Maybe some people can, but you can’t. You’ve always been this way, but I guess I’m just now seeing it.” You explained before walking off to join Molly and the others. After that Peter didn’t mess with you. Maybe he still loved you. Maybe he couldn’t hurt you any more than he already did. Maybe he did change. Whatever the outcome may have been, you left him. That’s how it’s going to stay.
Hey, I know you like Eric, but I thought maybe you’d be interested in Peter. @buried-in-books
I save you (Eric Coulter X reader)
Word count: 929
You and Eric barely ever got along. It was a love-hate relationship. You loved to hate each other and hated to love each other. It was complicated, to say the least. You argued and bickered back and forth. You guys told each other you hated each other all of the time. Everyone thought you guys were in love. It was weird. The other leaders thought you guys were in love, while the initiates thought you guys actually hated each other.
You guys went through the initiation process together. He’s still upset that you got a higher rank, then he did. It also didn’t help that you guys happened to be neighbors. You guys have still gotten pretty close over time. As much as both of you guys hated to admit it. The walls were thin, you have heard him angrily yelling or talking to himself all the time. What you didn’t know was that he listens too. The nights you found yourself crying in bed he laid there wishing he could help, or when you’d be laughing with a friend he wished he was the cause of the laughter.
Everything changed after the war with Abnegation started, well more like the war against Abnegation. You were also working for Jeanine but usually stayed in the Dauntless compound. One day when everyone was going over to Candor due to Tris and Four’s escape you decided to go. You didn’t know Eric was already there though. He was supposed to be at the Amity compound to check for Divergents.
You and your best friend Alex caught the train for the Candor compound. You guys talked about everything going on lately, but the ride was pretty quick and short, so it wasn’t a long conversation. You guys jumped out and ran for the compound.
“Search the bottom floor. I’ll get the top.” You instructed. Alex nodded and ran down the hall of the building. You ran up the stairs, slowly getting suspicious. It was quiet, too quiet. You walked into the main meeting hall to see a crowd gathering around. There were a few whispers and mumbling coming through. You had a gut feeling that something was wrong. You ran up and pushed people aside. In the middle of the room, you saw Eric sitting there. Handcuffed. Four and Tris stood in front of him. Four had a gun pointed at Eric’s head.
You pulled your gun out from the waistband of your pants and pointed it at Four.
“Back the hell off, Four.” You hissed.
“Y/N, go away before you get hurt.” Four said giving you a warning look.
“If you shot him the only person getting hurt is you.” You warned. Despite Tris and Four being good friends of yours. You still had your priorities set. You walked over and stood in between Eric and Four.
“Don’t do this, Four. If you stop now I’ll let you leave in one piece. You shot him and you’ll be dragged out of here.” You threatened.
“Y/N, Please. I don’t want to hurt you.” Four pleaded with you.
“So you’re going to shot the man I am in love with? Is that how this works?” You asked not really realizing what you said, until after you said it.
Four’s face dropped, “Y/N, no you shouldn’t be in love with him. He’s. He’s a-”
“You say monster and I’ll shoot you. He is no monster, Four. The only monster here is you. So, do me a favor and back the hell off. You are testing my patience right now and you know me well enough to know that I don’t have much of that.” You said heatedly.
“Fine, Y/N. Take him and leave. Don’t come back. Next time I see him or you. I won’t hesitate to shoot. You hear me?” Four asked.
“Loud and Clear.” You said in a low threatening voice.
“Good, now leave.” He muttered.
You didn’t take your eyes off of Four, as you walked behind Eric. You grabbed his arm and helped him up, then cut the ties that held his hands together. “Let’s go.” You muttered pushing Eric out the door making sure to keep yourself between him and Four. Four and Tris watched as you guys walked out.
Neither you or Eric said anything until you guys caught the train. You stood there looking out the opened door of the train watching everything pass.
“Is it true?” He asked walking up next to you.
“Is what true?” You asked not taking your eyes off of the passing field.
“You said that you were in love with me. Is it true?” He asked.
“Eric, I just said that in order to keep you from getting killed in there. Why?” You pretended that it didn’t mean anything.
“I was just wondering, because if so I would tell you that-” He started before you cut him off.
“What that I’m crazy?” You asked.
“No, I was going to say I would tell you that, I’m in love with you, too.” He confessed.
You turned to look up at him. “What?” You asked. Clearly, you heard him wrong.
“I’m in love with you, Y/N.” He said looking outside the train door.
“Eric.” You whispered.
“I get it. You just said that to save me.” He said with his usual cold expression. You turned him towards you and pressed your lips to his. It took him a second before he kissed back. It was a passionate kiss and you felt more than just sparks. You felt fireworks.

Chapter 1
Chapter 6
Breakfast was over and we all walked to the pit. There stood Four with a large board behind him. Our ranks. I don’t feel to excited though. Eric hugged me with one arm in a reassuring way. I let out a breath I forgot I was holding in. “You have 1 more week to bring your rankings up. It will be hard, but not impossible. I suggest if you are one of the bottom tens you get your shit together real quick.” Four explained. “This week we are going to be working on mental preparations. How you would react when confronted with your fears. Today though, You all will have one last fight and practice shooting again before lunch. After lunch we are going to show you what to expect.” Eric said in a loud menacing voice. Everyone just nodded. Four then moved away from the board. My heart almost jumped out of my chest. 1: Kai 2: Tris 3: Peter I sighed with relief. Eric pulled me even closer. “Do you think you can fight today?” He whispered concerned. “Probably. Either way I’m still going to fight. I am not going to risk my spot. Even if I do hurt myself more you said this is our last fight so I have nothing to worry about.” I explained. He thought about it for a minute then nodded, “Alright.” He said. “I’ll see you later. I have to be your instructor now.” He said. I nodded and walked away. I stood in the crowd as the first fight started. Izzy and Maddie. I smiled to myself knowing that there is no way Maddie will be able to win against Izzy. Their fight didn’t last long. It was fast and simple. The walked in circles for a while, then Maddie threw the first punch. Izzy dodged it and body slammed Maddie into the ground. Maddie groaned loudly, and before she was able to get up and continue fighting, Izzy punched her in the side of the head making Maddie pass out. Most of the fights ended quickly and were boring. Then, it was my turn. I was against Peter. Great. I walked up to the ring the same time as Peter. We got into our stances. “Let’s not have a repeat of last night.” He said. “No this time it will be one on one. You won’t have your little friends to protect you this time.” I smiled. “You won’t have your boyfriend to save you this time.” He said. “I don’t need him to protect me. I was able to beat your ass before and I am able to do now.” I said and threw the first punch. He dodged it. He threw the second and aimed for my face. I ducked and punched him in the abdomen. He doubled over. I swung my fist and it collided with the side of his head. He fell to the ground. I fell to my knees next to him and continued punching him. Over and over and over. He was moaning and pleading for me to stop. “Kai. Kai that’s enough.” I heard Four yell. “No.” I yelled and punched him again. I felt arms wrap around my waist pulling me away. “Kai. Stop.” Four said pulling me away. Tears started running down my face. “No.” I muttered. Eric walked up and I pushed Four away. Eric grabbed me from Four. “No.” I stood there next to Eric. Four walked everyone to the shooting range leaving Eric and I alone in the pit. “I don’t regret what I just did. I do, however, regret how I’ve been handling everything.” I muttered into his chest. “Shhh. It’s alright. You’ll be ok.” He said trying to calm me down. “It won’t be ok and neither will I, but I can pretend to be ok. I will pretend to be ok until the day that I am ok.” I said. “We should go.” Eric nodded quietly and we walked to the shooting range. I picked up the gun and pointed it to the target. I managed to fire all of the bullets and made each one hit the center of the target. Eric stared at me. He knew I could shoot well, but he seemed concerned. I reloaded the gun and continued at it. I moved to another set of targets. They were farther away and shaped like people. I continued to shoot. Over and over again. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around to see Eric. Everyone else was gone. “Kai. It’s time to go. Please.” He said concerned. I nodded and set the gun down. We walked together to the cafeteria for lunch. Where I didn’t even eat anything. I sat there with my fork pushing the food around. Eric sighed. I barely even looked up. “Kai. What’s wrong?” He asked. “Nothing.” I mumbled. That wasn’t really a lie either. The truth was I didn’t know what was wrong. I’ve been thinking about Daniel lately. Wondering if he knew. Did they visit him too. They weren’t my actual parents, but I don’t know what to consider them. I mean they didn’t even act like parents to me. Eric nodded, “Alright.” He mumbled. “I don’t know what’s wrong. It’s just everything happened so fast. I’m still processing what happened. I’ll be fine Eric I promise.” I whispered. He nodded again, “Just talk to me if you need to.” He explained. I nodded. We sat there until it was time to leave. We walked to another part of the compound. “This is where you will find out and live through each and every one of your fears. You will learn to work through them. You won’t know that you’re in a simulation, yet.” Four explained. “You will be given the fear serum. Each person will have a different time. Your rank will depend on your time and how long it takes to figure a way out. Your fear will change once your heart slows back down to normal.” Eric explained in his loud deep voice. Everyone simply nodded. Eric and Four walked into two separate rooms. They were there for about 5 minutes, then started calling out names. They continued calling other people for a while. I was at the end like usual. Four stepped out the same time as Eric. “Kai Waters” Four announced. I stood up. I saw Eric glance our way, then call someone else. I walked into the room with Four. It was set up the same way as the aptitude test. I walked in and sat down. “This one is a little different than the aptitude test. It involves each and every one of your fears. I also hope that needles aren’t one of your fears.” He said and before I could ask him what he meant he pulled out a long needle. I sighed, “I guess I’m not.” I muttered. He cleaned off my neck and pushed the needle in. He removed the needle, “You have 30 seconds before it takes action.” He explained. I nodded. He set the needle down and typed away at the computer. Then, everything started to disappear. I looked around and saw that I was stranded in the middle of the ocean. No land in sight. My heart was racing. I was about to start swimming when I saw a dark shadow move underneath me. I held my breath. Whatever this thing was it was huge. Then, not to far from me a huge whale jumped out of the water. No. Okay. I need to slow my heart rate down. I took a deep breath. I tried to slow my breathing. Nothing was working. I tried to swim, but there was no where to go. There was only one way to slow my heart down at this point. I decided to stop swimming. I started to sink. Down further and further. I wasn’t able to see the water surface anymore. My lungs started to burn. My chest felt as if it has been set on fire. My whole body ached. Then, everything disappeared. Wherever I was now was dark. Dark and dry. It was soft too, but confined. I felt around me. There was a wall on both sides of me and in front of me. Great. Buried alive. I started breathing rapidly. What do I do? I tried scratching at the sides. All that did was hurt my fingers. I pushed against the top. It creaked a little. I managed to turn so I was lying on my stomach. I pressed my back to the top and pushed as hard as I could. It crackled more and finally gave way. It wasn’t buried deep. I was able to stick my hand straight through the little bit of dirt that rested on top. I managed to dig myself out. I pulled myself out and fell onto the grass next to it. I stared at the sky until my heart calmed down to a more normalized pace. Then, I was standing in a dark room. In front of me stood Daniel, and in my hand sat a small hand gun. I looked at the gun and back up at Daniel. I shook my head no. “It’s ok, Kai” He said with a small smile. “No. I won’t do it.” I said shaking my head. “Kai, you have no choice.” He said, “and remember none of this is real. You don’t even have to look.” “Daniel. I won’t do it.” I said. “Yes you will. Kai, I believe in you. You’ll be fine. This isn’t real.” He said again. “It still feels real.” I mumbled. “Yes. Kai, in life things will feel real, but that doesn’t mean it is.” He said. I nodded. I undid the safety of the gun and clicked a bullet into place. I pointed it at Daniel. My finger resting on the trigger. Then, I turned the gun and shot myself. That was the end of my third fear. Then, I stood on top of a large building. The wind starting to pick up. I walked over to the side of the building and looked down. I had to be at least 20 stories high. There was an old fire escape on the other side. It was old and barely hanging there. It was the best chance I had. I looked up to see storm clouds quickly rolling my way. I turned and ran towards the other side of the building where the fire escape was. I slowly started to climb onto it. It was creaking loudly. One wrong move and this whole thing will fall to the ground. Slowly I started to climb down it. It creaked with every move I made. I was almost halfway down when the creaks got louder and it started to sway to the side. I grabbed onto a nearby window ledge. The same moment I grabbed the ledge the whole fire escape fell. Luckily the window happened to be open. I pulled myself through the window. I stood up and looked out the window. The fire escape was in a million pieces below. I turned and walked out of the room. To my concern the room happened to be on fire. Great. The fire blazed around me. I tucked and rolled through the door. I was now standing in a long burning hallway. I ran towards the stairs. Pieces of the ceiling started falling around me. I didn’t have long before the whole building collapsed. I sprinted towards the stairs and busted through the door. I jumped over the first railing onto the stairs below and continued to run down them as fast a possible. I got about 5 stories down. I had about 3-4 stories left when I came to a stop. The stairs had things stacked all over it where I couldn’t go any further. I turned and ran up to the door that lead out into the hall. I slammed open the door to feel a rush of heat. I sprinted down the hall. At the end of the hall was an elevator. I grabbed the doors and tried to pry them open. The metal was getting hotter. I managed to pry the doors open enough where I could squeeze through. I ripped two long strips off the bottom of my shirt and wrapped it around my hands. I then, squeezed through the doors and grabbed the cable. I slowly started climbing down the cable. The bottom wasn’t too far away. My hands and arms started aching. I eventually made it down. Next, I heard a loud creaking sound. Seriously. I pried open the door and right as I squeezed through there was a loud snap and the elevator was lying right where I was just seconds before. I let out a deep breath of air. I could see the exit from where I was. I looked down the hallway and saw flames rolling quickly my way. I sprinted, once again, towards the exit. I smashed through the doors as the whole building burst into flames and started crumbling to the ground. I stood there panting for air. Finally I gained my breath and I woke up back in the chair. “Do you know how long that took you?” Four asked. “I don’t know. Like 2 hours maybe.” I shrugged. “No. More like 15 minutes.” He said. “Kai. We really need to talk.” “No. We don’t. I don’t see why you people can’t just leave me alone for a few days. Between you and your little girl friend I can’t get any peace.” I muttered and stood up. I almost fell over, but he grabbed my arm stabling me. “Kai. Please just talk to me.” He pleaded. “What? Let me guess Eric, my boyfriend, and Jeanine, my mother, are planning some evil plan to destroy divergents.” I said sarcastically. “Did he mention anything about it to you?” Four asked confused. “No. Your girlfriend did though.” I muttered and yanked my arm away. “Kai. If he is can you talk to him please.” Four pleaded. “No, and whatever he plans on doing I will stick by his side.” I said and walked out of the room. Leaving Four standing there alone and confused and slightly angry.
