Alfred winced as he sat down under the bridge. His body ached from the bruises and his shoulder was bleeding from a stab wound. He probably shouldn’t have gotten in a fight, he tried to stay out of it. But it got to the point where he just couldn’t stand by while someone was getting beaten up. To be fair, most of the assailants got off worst than him, he just miscounted one guy who got the drop on him.
Sighing, he leaned back against the stone pillar. He tries not to think about why he’s out here, because that always hurts too much. He didn’t take the rest of the money Thomas Wayne had left for him to look after Bruce because it wouldn’t be right. But now his own money was running low. And well, nobody else is hiring butlers these days. Alfred had half the mind to go back to the bottle, the drugs, like he had done when he left the wars behind. But he had made a promise to Thomas and Martha, and given how many other promises he’s broken, he didn’t want to add another to the list.
Closing his eyes for a brief moment to fight back the tears, Alfred opens them when he hears footsteps close by.

“First thing I just taught you. Never underestimate your opponent.” Raegan stepped over a male transfer after slamming him to the ground and dropkicking him when he could not put up a proper defense. He had made an incredibly sexist comment to one of his “friends” about her, and she would not tolerate it. She was an instructor, and he would show her respect.
“And never speak of me like that again. Is that clear?” Pushing him back down to the ground, she took a deep breath and ran her hand through her hair, ignoring the murmurs of the other transfers. She watched through narrowed eyes as he nodded and staggered to his feet, hobbling off of the training mat.

River paused as she glanced up to Eric, after their meeting with Kovarian, not Kovarian. After their meeting with his mother River felt uneasy and had returned to her own quarters for once. It was late when he arrived but she hadn’t been able to sleep. “How’s your foot?” Probably not what he needed to hear but she didn't want to talk about anything else.

Not once in the sixteen years River had been living did she ever once admit that perhaps she was scared nor would she admit she had made a mistake. However standing on the roof surrounded by the people she grew up with and newcomers she couldn't say that she wasn't thinking both of those.
As no one stepped forward she started to get irritated and so moved through the crowd. "i'll jump first."

River had never wanted this to happen; she knew as well as others that people who were Divergent were acted upon as a danger to society. It's the only reason she had never told Eric, for a Dauntless that one thing she was scared of; losing him.
But the attack on Abnegation had startled her, especially his part in it and she knew that if they were to continue she needed to tell him the truth no matter what the consequences might be. After looking around she soon found him.
"Eric? Can we talk please?"
"Do you want to talk about it?"

River gave a bitter smirk. “Tris I just found out I’ve been living a lie since I was born… I wouldn’t know where to begin.”
