Reposted from @theguthealthmd (@get_regrann) - Let’s get this out of the way first: your health matters, it is important. And eating a diversity of plant foods 🥒🥝🌽 - yes, including cauliflower - is the single most effective way to boost the health of your gut and thus your overall self. . But I also want to bring another idea to the table here: BALANCE. . For those of us who worry about disease, deal with chronic health problems, and so on, prioritizing a healthy diet is a large component of our lives. But it can also be much too easy to go from “prioritizing” to “obsessing” - and as with anything in our lives, perfection becomes the enemy of good. 😓 . I’ve always preached ⚖️BALANCE ⚖️ as an essential part of a healthy life. What does that look like? 1️⃣ Not overdoing it on any one thing, even if it's kale or broccoli sprouts. 2️⃣ Including a wide mix of different plant foods so that you're getting a little bit of everything. #diversityofplants 3️⃣ Not allowing your commitment to your health to get in the way of your social life, family life, or overall freedom and happiness. 4️⃣ Accepting that you're not perfect, and sometimes you're going to break all the rules. And that's okay! Remember, "progress over perfection." . Trading your unhealthy diet in for an an unhealthy relationship with your food isn’t something I want to see. And while there are reams of science backing up why one choice may be healthier than another, at the end of the day, you are the person who understands your health needs best - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Making the healthy choice isn’t just about micronutrients, but about sustainability. . So ultimately in your quest to optimize your diet, the best one for you is the one you're actually going to do. And then roll with it! There’s no room for shame in your plant-powered game. . So spiralize that squash! Love those bean burgers! And yes, opt for the cauliflower pizza crust if you want it. But remember: moderation and balance are everything. Opting for rice instead of salad or having a few bites of birthday cake won’t give you cancer, destroy your gut biome, or cause you to gain ten pounds.
