Common Goldeneye - Rough Courtship by Turk Images While photographing the courtship and breeding of a pair of Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula), I noticed that the male was very aggressive and during the breeding or copulatory phase the female was forced completely under water or just barely able to breathe. I don't know if this rough behaviour is common or not, but I was amazed that the female survived the episode. This was observed on an urban pond in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 21 April, 2017.
