We have been working with @mass.wildlife and th wildlife agency of another state on a Wood Turtle project. Yesterday we conducted a check of these animals. All have been previously PIT tagged. This allowed us to quickly and easily identify each individual. Bufflehead ♀️ The way I try to photograph diving ducks is kind of funny. My approach is similar to the red light, green light game. When the duck dives, I run towards it for about 3-4 seconds, then kneel down before it pops back up. I do this until I'm in close range to get a decent shot. I won't say it works 100% of the time, but I does help! Common Goldeneye ♂️ with a juvenile Herring Gull. They actually weren't hanging out together. I was focused on the Common Goldeneye, and as it started swimming away from me, I just happened to catch this frame as it swam past the Gull. Have you ever seen a black Mallard? I saw this duck at Jamaica Pond, swimming with the Mallards, so I'm assuming that's what it is. Merlin suggests American Black Duck, which doesn't have this coloration either.
