How did you make that canopy. I like the romantic lighting!
Thank you! Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to take progress pictures.
The canopy itself was made from 3 rectangular sections of blackout curtains and a few yards of purple fabric my roommate had but no longer had a set project for.
One curtain section acts as the "top", the purple only used on the outside of the two other curtains to hide the ( usually hidden by facing the window) white interitor of the curtains.
I folded and sewn the raw edges of rhe purple fabric and attached it in the opposite direction about 2 inches from the top of the curtain, so flipping it over hid the sewing seam and gave a light bunched effect. Think of attaching a skirt piece to a waistband, right sides together with the intention of flipping it inside out. This also landed the folded over inseam the purple on the already set folded inseam of the curtain so there still isn't any white interior showing.
From there was making loops to attach to hooks in the ceiling with spare purple fabric and sewing those into the 4 corners while simply sewing the edges of the three curtains together.
The gathered effect at the bottom was done with a couple hooks in the wall and a few feet of ribbon sewen into loops. I essentially folded the fabric in half at the bottom and then gathered since i really wanted to purple to be prominant.
Things i would have done differently was to have the chance to measure out the fabric to perfectly match up with the curtains after taking care of the raw edges.
While lightly bunching the purple fabric at the top to match the width of the curtain had a good effect, I had to take in the length of the curtain with a basting stitch to match the 2-3 inches too short fabric length.
You can also see where I cheated on top as the curtain at it's full length would have been a foot or so too long on either side. The cheat was achieved by just pressing thumbtacks within the middle "dips" when the curtain was hung at all 4 corners roughly the width of the bed. First the middleish point of that excess length and then the middleish point of either side for a rippled effect. Then I stuck hooks in front of the front to hide the thumbtacks with the lantern lights.
Since it was all second hand stuff I was willing to make it work. It's a set up I can improve and expand on as i get material.
The lights i also had before, the lanterns were a lucky thrift find and the purple/pink Christmas lights were given to me by the same friend who provided the curtains. They're all just ran along the already set hooks with any plugs and unnecessary blank wire tucked though the fabric loops in the corners to live in top of the canopy. You can see I was able the fold the length of the christmas lights along the back wall to light up the interior and exterior.
