no i am well aware of this train wreck
Give me some books to read.
About a year ago, I read every single book John Green had written and I still want to cry a little and get mad at him that he hasn’t supplied me more. Honestly, I’ve been a little lost in my life and he addresses that so well and so often in his books that I felt a bit comforted. I haven’t even read much since, aside from Water for Elephants a few times front to back. If anyone has any titles to help the wanderlust fevers, send them to me. Please and thank you. <3
This book literally changed me. I cry thinking that it will be a movie because 1) I’m afraid that it won’t capture everything I fell in love with and 2) Because I am not going to be in it. (See also: Papertowns)
Why People Should Stop Saying “This Generation” & Why You Shouldn’t Let It Bother You
I’ve seen more than a dozen posts (today, alone!) about how selfish this generation is (for the sake of this post, I’m 22 and so let’s assume 5 years in either direction) or how we need to wake up or how.... you get the point.
As a young adult budding and finding my way in the world, all of that’s pretty discouraging. It starts to break you down until you feel like you can’t make a difference or that we ARE part of the worst set of people. But I’ve come to love being 22 and I’ve come to love the people that get to be 22 with me. (Or 17-27... you get me.) Well, these are my reasons why I think that this generation could be the best one yet, or at the very least, not the worst. (Side note edit: I have 22 stuck in my head- hard. Add TSwift to the list of things you can thank our generation for.)
1) Like other generations DIDN’T experience rude teenagers? For the most part, teens are going through so many changes with their bodies that you can’t really be mad at them for not trying to change the world at the same time. You don’t think that your grammie called some girl a shlut behind her girlfriend’s back when the hotter guy asked her to the dance? Get real. GranGran was slinging the insults back as fast as the underage liquor she was drinking with her friends. Teens have always been teens.
2) Look at what we’ve accomplished, and the mindsets that we’ve set out to change. Seriously, look. Gay marriage. The legalization of a medical plant. The demand for equal rights. The search for more green ways to do things. We’ve made our voices loud and we’ve been heard. There are still MANY changes to be made in our society, but you can’t say that our generation isn’t trying for the better. I can’t check social media without seeing body positive articles or links praising kids, teens, and adults alike for their progressive accomplishments. We’ve become steadfast in our praise of even the smallest battles won, and we aren’t afraid to tell someone that they’ve slayed it in their homemade prom dress. (Edit: I’m not implying that these changes are ALL our generations doing, but we have certainly been doing our fair share.)
3) You can’t generalize a group of people just because they are the same age. I repeat: You can’t generalize a group of people just because they are the same age. I wish I could repeat that a third time without being annoying. Just because I went to school with someone who is now in jail on some serious battery charges and drug trafficking does mean that you will find those things in my background check. No two people are the same because no two people have gone through the same things and responded to them the same way. Even two siblings are going to have different feelings about something that happened growing up. You are not the result of the wrong doings of others. You are the result of the wondrous and vast things that had to happen in just the right order for you to be where you are right this second, whether that’s where you’re supposed to be or if that’s going through something that will help shape you for situations you will need to get through in years to come.
PSA
The “Ruby Rose made me gay” era needs to be over, and here’s why.
1) You are helping to continue the sexualization of women by making comments that indicate that if you find a woman attractive, you must want to sleep with her.
2) You are being insensitive to the countless people who have had to seriously tell people they realized they were lesbian/bisexual and are taking away and making light of something that isn’t light at all.
3) It’s honestly annoying to see 100000 people post the same memes about a lesbian who is attractive and have them think it’s still clever.
4) When you broadcast just how someone looks and make that the biggest thing about them, you are implying that their looks are the best thing about them.
If you really want to help how people see women and if you really want to broadcast a leading lady for something, make it something not related to how they look. Here are some things that should get your panties really in a jimmy:

Let’s stop making the excuse of “I wasn’t looking into it that much” or “You’re taking this too seriously.” I agree that it isn’t fair that you should have to think about the consequences of what you say in regards to feminism, but these Ruby Rose comments are making this stage of working towards equality take even longer. Right now we need all the help we can get, and if we don’t take each other seriously, then no one will.

isn’t it cool and not remotely terrifying how no one ever figures their lives out? (by booksofadam for yrbff)
Currently me. I am in all of these stages at the same time, that’s how much of a mess my life is.
