Pierce It Yourself: Nostrils

So, you wanna get a facial piercing? Maybe it's your first piercing ever or maybe it's your second, third, fourth, fifth, maybe it's even your twentieth piercing.

No matter how many piercings you have, you can do your own nostril piercing. Maybe you have strict parents that wouldn't take you to a piercing place, or maybe you can't afford to get it professionally done. Either way, I'm here to walk you through piercing your own nostril.

Preparing

First, you want all the proper materials. For a nostril piercing you will need:

18g/20g piercing needle

Piercing jewelry (studs are reccommended for first time piercings)

Marker

Alcohol pad

Piercing clamp

Gloves

On what to pierce with, DO NOT USE A PIERCING GUN. Piercing guns do not pierce well. They are also harder to sterilize. More likely they will cause trauma to the skin and get infected.

You can get a good nostril piercing kit for $10 that has actual needles. You will want either a 18g or 20g needle depending on the jewelry you wanna put in.

Before you pierce your nose, it's a good idea to look up reference photos and play around with possible placements.

Another tip I'd give to anyone piercing themselves is to watch videos of professionally done piercings. They are good reference points as the people doing them often have years of experience.

Piercing

Now that you have all your materials, you can finally make your piercings a reality. Start putting on a pair of gloves. Then take your alcohol pad and rub it on and around the piercing area. This will get any dirt and bacteria off the area.

Use your marker to mark where you want your piercing to be. When you have your placement decided, take your piercing clamps and put the holes of the clamp ends around the mark.

Then turn your nostril horizontally to prevent the piercing needle from hitting other parts of your nose. If you want a more painless piercing, use numbing spray or numbing gel and put it over your piercing area. Then grab your piercing needle and pierce that shit!

After you pierced your nose, allow yourself time to look at the piercing spot. If it's bleeding, wipe off the blood with an alcohol wipe. Now put in your piercing jewelry at the end of your piercing needle. Remove the piercing needle through your nostril and thread the nostril jewelry into your piercing.

Aftercare

Nostril piercings take around 3 to 4 months t9 fully heal, so in that time, you should be extra careful with your new nose piercing.

Do not play with or change your piercing jewelry. That will cause irritation that can lead to piercing bumps. If you get a piercing bump, use jojoba oil or emu oil occassionally. Do not use chemicals like peroxide or rubbinf alcohol, those will only irritate the piercing more.

To care for your piercing, use a good unscented anti-bacterial soap and warm water on a q-tip and use it to clean your piercings. If it gets infected, please seek medical attention immediately.

After three to four months, your piercing will be completely healed. Congratulations! You now have a fully healed nostril piercing.

Summary: Y/n decided on a whim that she wants her ears double pierced and decides to do it herself. She calls Charlie to guidance and moral support and Dean catches her in the act.

•Really just fluff, based on a dream I had after piercing my own ears at like 2 in the morning. This is my first work I've ever put on Tumblr! I'm not sure how good it is, but I hope you like it!

She stood in the bathroom in front of the mirror, phone resting on the counter on speakerphone. A pin cushion sat next to her phone, a bottle of rubbing alcohol at the other side of the counter. She soaked a cotton ball in the alcohol and raised it up to her earlobe, swiping it over the front an back a few times to thoroughly disinfect it.

A voice from her phone interrupted the stillness in the bathroom. "Are you cleaning it?" Y/n dropped the used cotton ball into the trash as she answered, "Yeah, Charlie. Good to go."

"Okay, so you're gonna take your marker and put a dot on your ear where you want the piercing to go."

Y/n marked the dot a bit above her first earring, and checked in the mirror to make sure it would look okay. Once she was satisfied, she picked out a needle, that was a little thicker than a regular sewing needle, and dumped a stream of rubbing alcohol over the stainless steel, rubbing the alcohol over it with her fingers to cover the whole thing.

"You got the needle yet?" Y/n nodded as she spoke, "Yes, ma'am. Cleaned and ready." Charlie's voice crackled a bit through the phone speaker, "Okay, so just line it up with the dot and make sure it goes through straight. It's better to do it hard and fast," Y/n snorted, "so it goes all the way through at once. It'll hurt less that way."

"Okay, I'm doing it." She lined the needle up just like Charlie told her to, and begin to push the needle through. A knock on the door interrupted her and she yelped out a "Yes?" Charlie went silent on the phone waiting to see who it was.

Dean's voice came muffled through the door, "Y/n, you okay?" Y/n froze, she hadn't told the boys she was doing this and she wasn't sure how Dean would react to seeing her standing in the bathroom with a needle shoved halfway through her ear. Her eyes darted to the door which she forgot to lock, and she reached to flip the lock but the knob twisted before she could. The door flew open to reveal Dean on the other side looking worried. "Hey, Y/n, you alright? You didn't answer me when- what are doing?" He heard Charlie laugh on the other end of the phone.

Y/n bit on her lips while avoiding the question, "Um, is Sam still making dinner?" Dean narrowed his eyes, "Stop avoiding the question. Is that a needle in your ear?" His eyes widened at the sight of the sharp bar sticking out each side of her earlobe. "Yeah, so, I'm piercing my ears. And Charlie's guiding me." Dean glanced back at the phone on the edge of the counter when Charlie spoke, "Hiya, Dean!"

"Hey, Charlie. Y/n, you know they have tattoo and piercing shops, right? There's a tattoo shop like twenty minutes from here." She shrugged, "Yeah, but those cost money. This way is free." Dean shook his head, "We have fake credit cards, that's the same as being free." She shrugged again and turned back to the mirror and began pushing the needle through again.

"Charlie, I can't grip the needle to pull it all the way through." Dean leaned back against the tiled wall to watch his girlfriend pierce her own ear. "Find something hard and flat and use it to push against the back of the needle." Y/n dug around the drawers to find something she could use. She contemplated using the back of her phone for a moment but decided against it. Finally, she pulled a compact mirror out of a drawer and used it to do as Charlie said.

Dean watched with an almost disgusted kind of look as blood began to drip from the back of her earlobe. He cringed as the needle broke through the skin and cartilage and came out on the other side. "Oh hey, it went through!" She exclaimed. "Whoo-hoo!" Charlie cheered from the phone. "Alright, pull it the rest of the way through and then put the disinfected earring right in it. Don't take too long or the hole will close, but don't go too fast because it'll probably hurt."

Y/n picked up the earring off of the sink and dumped rubbing alcohol into her hand, swishing the earring around in it to clean it. When she was satisfied, she grabbed the front end of the needle and pulled the needle clear through her earlobe and set it on the sink before pushing the earring carefully into the new piercing. "Okay, I did it."

"How does it look?" Y/n turned her head a bit and studied her reflection in the mirror, looking at her new jewelry. "It's red, but I think it looks good." She heard Charlie clapping her hands through the phone, "Yay! Make you clean carefully around the earring to wipe of any blood." Y/n used a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol to clean up around the front and back of the earring, and threw the Q-tip in the trash. "Kk, Charlie I'm done with that one."

"Okay, so just do the same exact thing on the other ear. Make your dot and make sure they're even." Y/n uncapped the marker for the second time, bringing the felt tip to her other earlobe. She made a dot and turned her head side to side to check that they were evenly placed.

"Dean, do these look even?" She turned to face him, marker still in her hand. Dean stepped closer, gripping her chin in his hand to make her look straight at him. His eyes flickered back and forth between her ears, before he gently took the marker from her hands. He used the pad of his thumb to wipe away the still wet ink from her earlobe and mark a new dot just a little higher than the previous. "There you go." She gave him a smile and raised up to her tip-toes to peck his lips, "Thanks baby."

Dean leaned down for another quick kiss and smiled back, "Sure thing, sweetheart." Y/n turned back to the mirror and grabbed the needle again, dumping some more alcohol over it before lining it up with the purple dot on her ear. She made quick work of the second piercing, following the same steps as she had for the first one. Once she was finished, the new earring in place, she wiped the blood away with a new Q-tip and cleaned up the small mess she had made on the counter.

"Charlie, I finished." She took in her appearance, smiling at her now double pierced ears. "Awesome! Do they look good? Send me a picture!" Y/n held her phone up to the mirror, snapping a picture with Dean with his middle finger up in the background. She smiled at that and quickly sent the picture to Charlie. "I just sent it," she informed. "Oh, got it! Oooh those look so good, Y/n! Just make sure you clean them everyday, and twist them when you clean them so they don't get stuck." Y/n nodded as she made a mental not of the instructions, "Got it. Thanks so much for the moral support during this time," she giggled. Charlie laughed a little, "Of course! Let me know if there's anything else you're planning on piercing by yourself."

"No more at home piercings," Dean interjected. Y/n rolled her eyes sarcastically, "Will do," she responded to Charlie, "Talk to you later."

"Bye guys!" The phone beeped as the call disconnected and Y/n turned to face her boyfriend. "Are you mad?" She clasped her hands in front of her, wringing her fingers nervously. Dean scoffed jokingly, "No, I'm not mad. Really, they look good. Just wish you would've had someone who knows what they're doing do it for you." She grinned, "Charlie knew what she was doing, that's why I called her." Dean rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean."

Y/n wrapped her arms around Dean, laying her head carefully against his chest as to not hurt her sore ear, "I love you. A lot." Dean rubbed his hand up and down her back, "Love ya too, pretty girl. And yes, Sam is making dinner. He should be about done by now." They pulled apart and Dean wrapped an arm around her back and guided her out of the bathroom and towards the bunker's kitchen.

Sam turned around when they entered the kitchen, squinting at her, "Why are your ears so red?" Dean spoke before she could answer, "She pierced her ears, Sammy. With Charlie on the phone to instruct her." Sam raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Oh, they look nice. Good job." She smiled brightly, "Thanks, Sam! I can do yours next," she joked. Dean snorted, "Yeah, Sammy. Let her do yours next." Sam shook his head with a chuckle, "I'm good, but I'll keep that in mind." She shrugged, "Your loss, I'm doing Dean's after we eat." Dean choked a little on his beer, "You absolutely are not."
