It is an honor to be spinning at the upcoming Devil's Pie @ Verdugo Bar in Los Angeles.
This month I will be playing alongside DJ Concise to pay tribute to an artist that is very close to my heart, Jun Seba...a Japanese producer that recorded under the name Nujabes (NEW-JAH-BES), which is his name backwards in Japanese order. Nujabes was also owner of Shibuya record stores, T Records and Guinness Records as well as owner/founder of independent label Hydeout Productions.
He has collaborated with such artists as; CL Smooth, Shing02, Apani B, Pase Rock, Dwele are just to name a few. He was made famous in the US from his work on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack, an Anime cartoon which was based in feudal Japan setting in a modern placement especially in regards to hip hop culture.
On February 26th, Jun Seba was involved in a traffic accident who later passed in the Shibuya Ward Hospital after failed attempts to revive him.
I was first introduced to Nujabes during my days in design school, I heard a track from a dear friend of mine, which was "Arurian Dance," the music spoke to me in a way which I had never imagined. Through tough times, I turned to Nujabes. His music was able to capture me into a state of relaxation and deep meditation. There isn't many artists/producers/beat makers that can really speak to your inner soul.
Join me as we celebrate his life, his music...and the legacy he left for all of us.
