Introducing odd character races
when im asked what is the oddest thing and dungeon master can do i instantly know one thing that comes to mind. MAKING YOUR OW CUSTOM MONSTER RACE. now bare with me i have player a lot of odd stories in my bay and building your own race to play is hard. in my time ive made a few custom races not just for dnd but other ideas as well. one of the ones ive made was the most extensive was a race of slime creatures. these beings where a mass of slime that could take on human shape much like the slime critters from some animes but had a odd way of cultural aspects.
for starters they where all judged by slime color the colors would slowly fade as they got older to the point when i slime was clear as crystal it was said that they where to the end of their life span. after this they would ex-orb into the ground. colors could mix to make new colors but at the same time the colors had a class system. yellow or golden slime was viewed as royal slime and black or gray slime was viewed as low because of the fact that a slimes strength in mental and physical power was determined by its vibrancy. once a slimes genetic line mixed to the point of a black slime they became hostile and violate often acting mindless and would kill anything that came near it.
when i wrote the race it was mainly because i was a art student and i went with colors that basically where viewed in some ways in the art world since black was always used in sad somber or even evil backgrounds i chose this color to be the color that the race viewed as bad. this caused alot of cultural conflict with the race outside its home world and made it to where anyone that made a character of that race had something they had to learn from and adapt too outside the area of its origin. there was one draw back to the race though they ate by exorbing anything as such if you ate something you gained that much in mass so that meant the slime would grow. as such many adventuring slimes would eat only a grain f sand but still be hungry. the kind also greeted each other by binding together as a show of respect. however this was also a risk as the race could kill another slime in this way by exorbing the other so it was sort of exposing your weak spot to the enemy. this made alot of people scared as some races that saw slimes as evil would badly misunderstand the action unless told about it first.
on the whole of this i think that making that race was fun because of the fact the entire races culture and even biology was fun as hell. if anyone has any questions about the slimes and their race let me know in the ask box and ill explain more
