Rules are simple. Deduce the character from the clues, then use their name as the Key to break the code. Class: Great Old One Warlock (Past of the Tome) Species: Human(ish) Proficiencies: Insight, Intimidation. Expertise: Perception. Abilities: Detect Thoughts, Fear, Eyebite, Charm Person, Powerword: Kill. Background: Inheritor Backstory: This lonely researcher was given a position of great acclaim in his organization. Slowly, he began to realize that this job wasn't just a 9 to 5, as some of the stories he's tasked with filing begin to pain a very strange and frighting picture. Here is a fun puzzle for you next DND session

Before you there are two guards and in the next room over there are two doors. (Blah blah blah) one always tells the truth and one always tells lies.

BUT HERE IS THE TWIST. The one who can only lie is actively trying to point the party in the correct direction.

He will try to actively try to provide correct information through lies and deception.

Meanwhile the other one is trying to provide incorrect information through honesty and logical fallacies.

Puzzle Idea

Door of Dooring

Description: A heavy metal (❌🤘) door, without any inscription or mysterious entity guarding it, in a completely empty room. Oh and also without a handle or a key hole. The players can’t sense any sort of magic coming from it.

Functionality: It’s a one way door. The players must find a way to open it from the inside, like using daggers in the space between the door and the wall to pull it or with magic.

Inspiration: …I closed myself in a walk-in-freezer accidentally. For 30 minutes, which is probably less than how much time your players are gonna spend trying to understand what’s the deal with this door.

Hey theyllas,

DMing and the current big idea is the party is looking for the hideout of a pirate group to rescue an imprisoned blacksmith and return him to his wife and young child.

Trying to give them an opportunity to stow away so I have a warehouse on the pier with a business ledger anticipating a shipment from “BCU” (name of the group is the Black Cane Union, kind of posing as a shipping company. They know this is the pirate party name. I told them that’s what the pirates were called) and

An ancient civilization created a writing system that can be read in two directions, as glyphs are paired in mirrored doubles (like "b" vs "d").

To unlock the door, one must arrange fairly heavy stone blocks with letters on them in a 5x5 grid, with one stone missing on purpose for the movement to be possible. The last letter is known.

Fun twist could be to make the text on the grid similar to SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS - Readable in any direction when put in a 5x5 grid.

Okay, shorter wait than expected. Dear assorted followers, I proudly present to you...

This short document is connected (only thematically and stylistically) to my book Grimdark & Dangerous. You don't need both to use either, but they do play nicely together. Grimdark Puzzles contains 3 (ish) puzzles that GMs can drop into any existing dungeon and simple battle maps that can be used to assist running these puzzle encounters.

I say 3-ish because these puzzles also contain iterations. There are three *base* puzzles. One in particular has three whole other small puzzles that it can be paired with (its basically six puzzles if I'm being honest) and the other two main puzzles have optional rules and minor iterations that GMs can apply.

I don't want to spoil the puzzles too much, because I put a lot effort into writing all these details and mechanics. But the names of these puzzles are as follows

Make of these titles what you will. You really want to hear more about them, but the document. It's $5. Saying that now before someone busts out a "you expect me to pay you money for this?" Becuase of fricking course. Yes. You think this stuff is easy to write? $5 dollars is really low considering how long this doc took as far as writing and balancing time takes. I am not great with math and this was mostly math when it comes to balancing.

The writing on this doc started early in March. It did not get finalized to a publishable state until this week. It was the project that I had talked about bringing to the front-burner a while ago, and it has been on and off that burner since it started.
