Where an impromptu psudo-dnd style dice rp game starts with shoulder bumps and ends with Sammy Lawrence saving the forest & everyone in it.
So today I think I played an impromptu psudo-dnd style dice rp game with my siblings. It started out with me and one of my 17 yr old sibs just goofing around with the dice and bumping each other’s shoulder. Like, she’d roll to “attack” (bump/if she was able to “bump” me) and then I’d roll either effectiveness (how much damage I took if it was a low number) or Counter/deflect (to lessen the damage). If I did a counter, then she’d roll for how much damage she got and I’d be able to be the one attacking.
Eventually, we both rolled 1′s for attacking/counter-attacking and agreed that we both ended the fight by papping each other gently on the cheek.
Then, with that same logic, we started rping two characters where each character had a special characteristic (like “Intimidation” for undead & villainous chars, “Courage” for human characters, etc.), an optional “body effect”, and like, 2 special abilities max.
As we were doing this, my two little sibs (who are 5 & 8 yrs old) wanted to join it. the 8yr old joined in as a shapeshifting shadow cat named Shadow, and the 5yr old flipped between being Agent Otto from Oddsquad & Sammy Lawrence (bc he saw some fan art of Sammy while I was looking for something and took a real shine to him.) We got him to stick with Sammy and what ensued is probably the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
See, at first, it was just my OC, Bonely and the 17yr old’s human oc. Boney scared the kid nearly to death and managed to tell a super effective joke that allowed the kid to successfully run away instead of being paralyzed with fear. Bonely pursued (bc heck this kid doesn't seem ok and probs needs help) and only made things worse by scaring the kid more (failing to convince him he's not gonna hurt him) and getting lost. (I legit rolled a one on the action "Try to find oc").
After that, the kids joined in and all our characters were lost in a forest. Mine accidentally set it on fire trying to build a campfire to warm himself up. This led to a whole thing of shenanigans where Bonely tried to put out the fire and ended up getting caught on fire himself and running through the forest, Shadow insisted on finding a stream and transforming into a walking bucket in order to put out the fire, Sammy trying and failing to put the fire out with his ink (via “ink blast” as the 5yr old put it), and the 17yr old’s oc being blinded & covered in ink bc the 5yr old kept rolling a 1.
Next, the 17yr old’s Oc (I can’t remember it’s name) was blindly stumbling through the forest, his counterpart (another char the 17yr old had earlier) had successfully called for help, Shadow had found Bonely and put him out with water, & Sammy went looking for the Stream Shadow found, found the lake it went to, and promptly saved the forest by absorbing the water and spraying the whole forest. (the 5yr old rolled a friggin’ 6 so of course his “suck up the water & use ink blast to put out the fire” was super effective. XP)
By the end of it, most of the characters were kind of stranded where they were until the 5yr old said he wanted Sammy to “Gather all his friends and throw a party for saving the forest” and rolled another 6. The 17yr old and I both concluded that this super effective move resulted in all the ink Sammy sprayed turning into friendly Searchers who promptly found all the characters & brought them to the lake where everyone had fun at the party and were restored to perfect health.
So yeah, through an impromptu dnd-esque minigame, Sammy became a hero by saving the forest with his ink.
I was laughing so hard by the end of this, I’m surprised I didn’t go into a coughing fit.
