He/Him

Granite's life has been, for lack of a better word, an outright mess.
His life started in the vast, musical Kingdom of Verasil, brought to life via magic for the express purpose of being a gatherer of information, as well as a son for the Tiefling Wizard, Sirris. What he chooses to do with that information is ultimately up to him. At age fourteen, he was taken from his home into the palace, which was the last time he saw his father figure who, for all Granite had known at the time, sold him to Queen Anathema, the current ruler of Verasil.
Anathema, for what it was worth, wasn't necessarily a cruel queen to Granite. She treated him well and the palace workers, including the Champion, Runic, took him under their wings and treated him like one of their own. But Anathema's kindness always felt forced. Fake. The perfect utopia of the palace and Granite ascending to a powerful role came at the cost of never seeing his father ever again, and Anathema had seen to it that Sirris never interfered.
After a short couple of years under her, she gave him a job: Infiltrate the Thieves' Guild, Iron Forest, and gather information that would help the guard finally see to the Guild being shut down.
She just didn't account for the fact that Granite would genuinely grow fond of the people working in the Guild. That he would grow closer to them than he was with anyone else. He made real friends there, such as a sibling group of a Tiefling known as Arrius and a Dragonborn known as Nalmisar. He especially grew closer to a Yuan-Ti Pureblood, Erebus. It didn't come at much of a surprise when their relationship deepened into something softer and more open. Granite didn't know what falling in love had felt like prior to Erebus entering his life, but he never wanted it to end.
Years later, the ragtag group managed to help Granite officially escape from Anathema after the Gargoyle had realized how manipulative the vile queen was, allowing him to live his own life in Iron Forest. With the others by his side, he felt unstoppable.
Until Erebus and he took a job that went sideways quickly, resulting in taking Erebus's life. Granite, broken by what his hubris had brought upon someone he loved more than anything, had never truly recovered. His Guildmaster, having grown impatient with Granite's grief, had him excommunicated.
So Granite wandered, lost and aimless. Doing the bare minimum to get money so he can find the nearest tavern and get wasted so that he can dull the pain for a few hours, rinse, and repeat. And that's how it went for the next two years.
At least until he had caught the attention of a certain Archfey, and all of a sudden, Granite found himself as part of another Guild. Another ragtag bunch. Years prior, Granite would have latched onto them as he had with the others. But now, he kept his distance. He was here on obligation alone and had no desire to pretend the others could be anything more to him. He couldn't suffer that pain again.
That being said, a certain copper Dragonborn has seemingly made it her mission to break down those walls Granite had crafted. Her kindness offering a light in the darkness that had shrouded the Gargoyle and threatened to choke him. He felt like he could finally breathe again.
Those walls came back up when a very dangerous threat gave Granite a choice he couldn't take a gamble on refusing: Give up the Guild, specifically Coralan, for the safe return of Erebus, who was promised to still be alive and very much well. He was to betray the people who tried to save him for the one who taught him how to love.
