the thing i love most about the dan howard story is that there was no specific reason that the lore was not dropped previously like at any point they could’ve been like “yeah a guy was ultra wasted and asked dan if he was dan howard” but instead it’s been a random easter egg for years

what’s the significance of Final Fantasy for them? I know they both love it but was it one of the things they first bonded over?
yeah they played a lot of FF when they first started hanging out and it became their thing. phil's first christmas present to dan was the tonberry plushie, which is a character from FF (and still on their shelf btw…. im so normal abt that…)
in 2009-2011 especially they both mentioned FF and the songs having a special meaning to them many times. like “interrupted by fireworks”, "tifa's theme", and "holding my thoughts in my heart" (brb crying just thinking abt this). phil used those songs in the vday video and you can find some videos of dan playing FF songs too! plus dan said this in a formspring answer:
after all these years they still play FF together and now we know that they literally have a framed picture in their forever home of them as catboys....
like it really is an incredibly special thing for them, and probably a pretty strong reminder of the times when they met, the beginning of dan & phil :’)

i cannot find the screenshots but dan (or both if you believe in the phedroom) straight up has a bondage bar across the headboard of the bed
it was visible in an insta story and when people called attention to it, dan replied something along the lines of "its for holding pillows :)"
