It’s been discussed but i cant get over how ridiculous L’s lines in the game begins are specifically ’a kilobyte of information and soon a corner’s turned’ and ‘i sift 1000 pixels’ because. that’s nothing. L thats literally NOTHING. he’s turning the corner with approximately 1/20th of a blank word document and THIS:

the allegations against xander pang (death note the musical’s new light yagami).

it has recently come to my attention that xander pang, london’s current light yagami, has a history of sex offense and digital exploitation.

this is my attempt at compiling information. i’m not able to find very much currently, but this post will be updated if i locate more.

while not mentioned by name as he was a student at the time, this article details the abuse he was allegedly involved in:

June 2, 2021 - Singapore—School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) said on Facebook on Wednesday ( June 2) that, contrary to earlier media reports

and here is the post that relates pang to the situation, with the mentioned vetted account from the article:

it seems that while most of the members of this group were expelled, he was able to simply transfer to another school due to his father, famous actor adrian pang, pulling some strings.

death note the musical refuses to acknowledge any of these allegations, instead burying and deleting all comments made about the situation, implying they are aware of pang’s past actions and choose to ignore them rather than make a single statement.

and if your defense for pang is simply that this incident happened over a decade ago, let me say this. if pang is a changed man as you imply, why not put out a statement proving so? why hide like a coward?

xander pang and the team behind death note the musical must be held accountable. do not support this production.

(if anyone has counter evidence/corrections to make, let me know. i’m not well versed in this situation and was only recently informed of this. additionally if anyone has additional evidence against pang i will accept it.)

(i do not consider myself particularly knowledgeable on pang. however i felt the need to share what little i know with the tumblr fandom.)

thinking again of musical!soichiro's explicit opposition to L especially when he says "but don't traffic in this grief / In the name of eye for eye" in "there are lines" mostly because the thing is. for L. there are no lines. that's the point. L lives by "an eye for an eye." so you get this fascinating moment where soichiro is explicitly L's narrative foil and light's positioning in the narrative can be triangulated, i think, by who he says he's aligning himself with vs who he's really closer to in ideology and methods, and you can really understand light yagami if you look at him through the dialectic of soichiro and L. it's obvious that soichiro's lens is warped but L's camera, too, suffers from perspective warp and understanding light yagami means conjugating their blindspots. light is soichiro's son; suspicious but beloved, incapable of crime yet perpetrating it, living regardless by soichiro's sense of justice yet defying it. light has L's ruthlessness, his ego, his amorality, but L and light have wildly different presuppositions of justice/righteousness/seigi. you can find light yagami where L and soichiro overlap and where they contradict.
