The Ask Box is back open!
We want to thank everyone for your patience while we did our maintenance. It was very productive and we were able to fill the queue for about the next month and get rid of clutter. We got through half of the inbox, which I think is really great since that amounts to about 200 asks. With that said, I want to address a couple things we saw a lot of while going through the inbox:
-DO NOT ASK US FOR /SPECIFIC/ MEDICAL ADVICE/DIAGNOSIS. If you are experiencing a strange symptom or something doesn’t seem right or if you suspect you have something that binding/hrt/surgery could interfere with PLEASE talk to your doctor. We are not equipped to be dispensing that kind of information, and this blog is not meant for that purpose. A reputable health care provider will not give a diagnosis and/or treatment options over the internet, and if you come into contact with someone who does, run for the hills. At best you might get a helpful tip and at worst you could end up hospitalized or dead. This is not an exaggeration. The purpose of the blog is to provide a place to offer science-based /GENERALIZED/ health information only. From this point forward, if we get specific medical questions in the ask box, we will be deleting it.
-DO NOT SEND US URGENT MESSAGES. This could be about the point above or even something like needing info stat for something that is happening in your life tomorrow. Mod Caleb is a full-time Funeral Director, Mod Mayhem is a nurse AND a grad student, and we’re both dealing with chronic health issues. We simply cannot guarantee that we will be able to get to a message like that in a timely fashion.
-SEARCH THE TAGS/USE THE SEARCH BAR BEFORE SENDING AN ASK. I know this seems like something we’re harping on a lot, but it goes right back to how busy we both are. We have answered thousands of asks and have been pretty good about tagging them. There were dozens of questions sitting in the ask that we’ve answered multiple times. I verified this by searching it myself on our page and for just about every instance of that I was able to find a corresponding post that detailed the answer. We do not have time to answer the same questions again, and the purpose of this blog is to act as an easily accessible resource for folks. That doesn’t work when they have to sift through so many repeats. From this point forward, if an ask is submitted that is a repeat of something we’ve answered, we will be deleting it.
We appreciate you taking these points into consideration and for all the support you’ve given us in the last couple years! We will probably do other maintenance shut downs periodically, but we will keep you posted before we do those.
