The Cycle of Thirteen is the total fourty-five thousand year lifespan of a Premacura, Ophelia's species. They live not one, but thirteen total lives by passing on their soul into a series of host vessels. These vessels are hand-crafted by the original in-between death and rebirth - a very painful physical process. Supported by Time Magic, these vessels can live ages longer than humankind but are vulnerable to death all the same by mortal wounds or an overload of magical energy. Extremely traumatizing events can also trigger a reincarnation.
Bear in mind that these vessels are not real beings. They are not individuals born with a soul of their own, but rather hosts to carry on the semi-dormant soul of the original life. Each carry a quality, a desire, and a regret that the original once had, and base their personalities off of them. They are mannequins and puppets.
Cassette, who was once a Vessel of another entity known as Lucia, was separated from the cycle as punishment for rebellion against her original self and was left with nothing to base her own personality on then-after, leading to countless cycles and death and rebirth, quite literally set on loop like a cassette tape. Over time, however, this process pushed her further and further from her original self and gave her the free will she so sought out. This, in turn, gave her individuality, and gave her the opportunity to become her own being. The first of her own Cycle.
Ophelia is who came after her, the very first Vessel of this rebellious spirit, born out of the wish to live. Because of this wish, Cassette's influence is willingly minimal, only to really come out when boredom strikes her or if Ophelia is in extreme danger.
