RING-RING 📞
The sound of the Heffley's landline rang throughout the house followed by Rodrick's quick footsteps, sprinting down the stairs, "Out of my way freak!"
"Wha—" Greg who was groggily walking down the stairs was pushed to the side by Rodrick, definitely waking his spirit up. He only caught a glimpse of his older brother's bed head as he ran like his life depended on it.
And it's because it definitely did. It was game fucking over for Rodrick when his mom finds out about you. Not that Susan wouldn't love you, she absolutely would! But he's not going to risk you ghosting him for whatever embarrassment his family might do in your presence. Thus why he needs to answer the phone before his mom does.
Too bad though cause Susan already has the phone on her ear, "Hello?"
Greg followed Rodrick to the living room as he leaned on the sofa, finding pleasure in watching his brother's misfortune. What a great way to start the morning!
Meanwhile, Rodrick let out a sound of defeat as he clutched his hair. He dramatically fell down on his knees on the living room carpet looking at his mother in horror as he watched her on the phone. Hoping just this once that the person on the other side was not you.
Spoiler alert: It was you on the other side of the phone.
"Oh!" The female voice who answered the phone surprised you a bit, "Hi! Uhm, Is this Mrs. Heffley?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"I'm Rowley's sister, Y/N. Is uhm Rodrick there, Mrs. Heffley?"
"Oh! Yes yes! I didn't know Rowley had a sister," Susan smiled wide at the newfound information while Rodrick's jaw dropped as he clutched his hair tighter, "Anyways, Let me get him for you,"
Susan faced Rodrick on the floor and covered the phone with her palm, "Rodrick, honey, please get off the floor. Y/N wants to talk to you."
Rodrick dragged himself up from the floor to where his mom stood as Susan went back to feeding Manny breakfast.
"Hello?" Rodrick sounded so defeated and was so ready for you to take back what you said last night, but then you laughed. He smiled, both in relief and in hearing your laughter. You being part of his morning just felt right for him.
"Why'd you sound so sad so early in the morning, drummer boy?"
"No reason. Just not much of a morning person, you know?" Rodrick couldn't wipe away the smile on his face, just as much as your own, but he didn't have to know that, of course.
"You uhm have plans for tomorrow?" You asked him nervously. Actually, you wanted to wait for him to ask you but you obviously were not patient enough to wait till later. I mean, you do need a lot of time to prepare a decent outfit!
"Oh.." Rodrick furrowed, "Sorry, Y/N. I'm going somewhere with my family tomorrow, maybe next tim—"
"Rodrick, why won't you invite your girlfriend to come with us tomorrow?" A smiling Susan entered the living room with Manny in her arms. Before Rodrick could protest, Greg spoke,
"Can I invite Rowley too?"
"Sure! Why not?" Susan smiled as Greg pumped his fist running back up to his room. Rodrick was clearly not happy with this as his face scrunched, mouthing a 'what the hell'.
"Also, you need to go take a shower, Rodrick. And make sure your girlfriend will be there tomorrow, okay? I want to meet her!" Susan excitedly put her fist up in excitement, Rodrick's cheeks turned pink as he quickly placed his palm on the phone hoping you didn't just hear what his mother had said.
"Y/N's not my girlfriend mom!" Rodrick side eyed his mother who went back to the kitchen with Manny as she ignored what he said. Not realizing his mouth was not that far from the phone, he whispered, "Not yet at least."
On the other side of the phone, your lips were pursed and cheeks were rosy as you heard Mrs. Heffley refer to you as Rodrick's girlfriend and Rodrick saying not yet.
"So uhm Y/N, do you want to come with us to the pool tomorrow? I mean, it's totally fine if you don't want to! We could just hang out another time and stuff.."
You were still thinking about what Mrs. Heffley previously said, staring into space. Your silence making Rodrick worry.
"..Uhh Y/N? You still there?"
"Yeah! Yeah, just..uhm went to grab something," You scratched your eyebrow and tried calming the heat on your cheeks with your palms, "Me and Rowley will be there tomorrow. Just text me the time and address."
"Nice! Will do!" Rodrick smiled in relief, again. He looked down at his palm where you wrote your number on. Thank God your pen doesn't smudge that easily, "See you, Y/N"
He anticipated for tomorrow but at the same time, dreading it. Just hoping his family won't embarrass him in front of you.
"See you tomorrow, Rodrick" A small smile tugged at your lips as you bit back the urge to jokingly call him boyfriend. Though, you weren't going to give him that satisfaction. From his previous words, not yet at least.
💌
After that phone call, you spent the rest of the day figuring out what to wear for tomorrow. If someone told your past self that in the future you'd be picking new clothes at the mall just to go to a public pool, you'll definitely not believe them. But, here you are!
You just finished shopping for clothes and decided to stop by a milkshake bar in the middle of the mall. You have been eyeing it since you got inside for its very interesting decors. You approached the cashier with a smile,
"Good afternoon! What would you like to order?"
"Hi! Can I get one banana milkshake please?"
"Sure! Would you like anything else with your milkshake? A pastry?"
"Uhm.." You scanned the pastries they offer, contemplating whether to get one, "I'm good, thanks!"
The cashier restated your order and told you your total as he pushed buttons on the cash register, taking multiple glances at you while he did. He then handed you a number from under the counter.
"Thanks!" You grabbed the number and took a seat a table away from the counter. While waiting, you checked your phone to see an unknown number had texted you,
You smiled at your phone and saved his number. As you were about to text back, one of the milkshake bar's employees placed down your drink in front of you, you smiled at him, "Thanks!"
He smirked back then leaned one hand on your table, "Hey, I forgot how to spell 'magnificent,' but I think it starts with 'M' and ends with your phone number."
God help me..
You looked at the employee horrified as you looked at him up and down, that might just be the worst pick-up line you have ever heard that it sent nasty chills down your spine. It was even far more lame than Rodrick's band name!
"Sorry, no." You tried politely turning him down even with his stupid ass pick-up line until he laughed at your face,
"Why not, princess?"
"Look..." You sighed, closing your flip phone as you tried to read his nameplate, "..Rodrigo. I will never give you my number. You wanna know why? It's 'cause I do not date boys who cannot even spell something as simple as 'magnificent'. So please, let me drink my milkshake in peace."
His smirk faltered as it turned into a slight frown. He stood up straight, grabbing your table number before turning around to get back behind the counter, "Whatever"
You rolled your eyes at him as you went back to typing your text to Rodrick.
Rodrick smiled at his phone while he laid down on the sofa. He felt like a head over heels teen girl as he giggled at the heart you sent him. The giggling surprised Greg as Rodrick usually was out cold at this time of the day. With Rodrick not noticing his presence entering the living room and the absence of his video games, a bored Greg quickly snatched the phone away from his brother's hands, "Hey!"
Greg laughed and ran away from the living room to the dining table, reading the text fast with a high-pitched voice, "Hi rodrick thanks for inviting me so excited see you tomorrow muah muah muah"
Rodrick on the other side of the table panicked and tried to run after Greg but they only ran around the table. He had his arms up beside him to block Greg's path, "Stop reading Y/N's texts, you weirdo!"
Greg only laughed as he found out it was from you and laughed harder after he looked at the saved name, "Am not!"
"You are!"
"Am not! A weirdo will stalk a girl's myspace and have her number saved on his phone as 'love of my life'" Greg laughed as Rodrick failed to grab him again,
"How the fuck did you know that, loser!"
"Language, Rodrick!" Susan scolded them from the kitchen counter, not even bothering to stop them this time, being already used to their antics.
They stopped on either side of the table again, both swaying side to side as Greg shrugged and ran again. Rodrick followed but tripped on one of the chairs legs, giving Greg the chance to run past him to the stairs.
His maniac laughing was cut short. Before he could even step on the stairs, Rodrick had already grabbed him by his collar, "Gotcha!"
Damn Rodrick for his longer legs.
Greg tried to free himself from Rodrick's grip but was immediately faced with his brother's armpit, "NO!"
🤿
Finally, pool day!
You got up early for this as it's been so long since you've been to Plainview's public pool, Rowley wasn't even born when you last swam there!
After shower and skin prepping, you slipped on your hot pink halter top and hot pink bikini bottom, both adorned with metallic details. You wore jean shorts over your bikini, placing an assortment of jelly and silver rings on your fingers and silver hoops to match. You put your hair up with a hair claw, leaving some hair to frame your face.
You were almost done with your makeup when you heard a knock, Rowley soon appeared behind the door, "You ready, Y/N?"
"Yeah, almost done.." You told him as you faced your mirror being so focused on putting mascara on your lashes, "Why don't you wait for me in the car. I'll be down in a minute."
You heard Rowley mumble an 'okay' and walk down the stairs. You finished preparing, quickly grabbing your bag and bedazzled sunglasses on your way out. As you were about to exit your room, you sighed and turned around suddenly remembering to grab your platforms, running down to the garage after.
Hurriedly bidding goodbye to your parents, you and your younger brother made your way to meet the Heffleys. Thank God your brother was here because you two were in a rush and would've been lost by now if it weren't for him.
The big signage of the public pool greeted you both, it looked like your typical blue pool signage with those smiling suns that wore shades. You parked the car and wore your sunglasses before you both grabbed your things, walking to the entrance of the pool. While walking in the lobby, you quickly sent Rodrick a text, notifying him that both of you were in the lobby already.
Not long after, you came face to face with Rodrick, "Hi!"
"Hey!" Rodrick smiled back at you as he lowered his gaze to your outfit, making him blush, "We should uh go, it's kinda hot in here."
You laughed, fanning yourself with your hand, "It kinda is"
Rodrick grabbed your things from you, walking towards where his family sat as you and Rowley walked behind him. (We love a gentleman)
The pool was really crowded as if you were at some kind of house party but with children and really old people. Considering it was summer, you honestly should've expected this already.
"Rowley!" Greg jumped up from his seat as both him and Rowley waved at each other. Rowley settled his bag beside Mr. and Mrs. Heffley, also greeting them in the process as him and Greg went to swim.
As Rodrick placed your bag down next to Rowleys, you approached Mr. and Mrs. Heffley with a smile, offering your hand for a handshake, "Hi Mr. and Mrs. Heffley! I'm Y/N, Rowley's older sister."
Frank looked at Susan in shock, shaking your hand, "I didn't know Rowley had a sister."
"Hi sweetie! I'm glad you were able to come. Rodrick told us so much about you!"
Rodrick's head snapped towards his mother as he raised his eyebrow at her in surprise, muttering an 'I did?' while you looked at him and smirked, "Did he, Mrs. Heffley?"
"It's great to finally meet Rodrick's girlfriend!" Susan exclaimed while she wiped more sunblock on Manny. You and Frank quickly turned your heads towards Susan at the same time, Frank choked on his orange juice and Rodrick's jaw dropped. You and Rodrick were both blushing as you stood there shyly, looking away while rubbing under your nose in embarrassment.
Frank looked at Rodrick, "I didn't know you had a girlfriend?"
"Anyway! Me and Y/N will just go buy ice cream. We'll be back!" Rodrick quickly grabbed your wrist, leading you far away from his parents before they said something even more embarrassing, you can only smile back at Mr. and Mrs. Heffley as you were dragged away.
You got excited as soon as you both saw the ice cream bar, it looked the same as when you last visited! Meanwhile, Rodrick looked at you happily as he saw how excited you were. You both quickly sat down on the stool as the previous couple left, "You like banana split?"
"Oh my gosh, yes please!"
"Okay," Rodrick chuckled at you as you looked like you were even more excited than Greg and Rowley will ever be, "One banana split please."
The smile never left your face, excitedly swaying your legs while waiting for the ice cream. Rodrick propped his arm on the counter and leaned on his palm.
"What?" You slightly laughed nervously as you curiously looked at him, he just smiled.
"Nothing. You look really pretty today."
You lightly blushed, "Thanks"
He sat up straight, scratching his nape in embarrassment, suddenly remembering what his mom previously said, "Sorry for my mom by the way, she can be embarrassing sometimes."
"It's okay. Your parents are really sweet." You smiled and leaned slightly towards him, him smiling back. Both of you continued to talk until the incident you had at the mall yesterday was brought up.
"He was a total asshole about it!" You frowned. Your banana split was then slid on the counter towards you by the employee, "Thanks"
Rodrick was frowning the whole time you were ranting about this asshole of a guy, he just wanted to storm off to the mall and give that fucker a nice big bruise on the face.
"His name was as lame as his pick-up line too! Imagine having Rodrigo as your first name." You were so upset about it you were now hating him for everything but what you said just made Rodrick's ears perk up,
"What was his name?"
"Rodrigo. Lame right?" Rodrick's frown deepened as he now shared the same hatred as you for this guy.
"Brunette? Piercings?" You nodded as he pointed a finger at you, "That guy stole my ex-girlfriend from me last summer!"
"No way"
"Yes way!" Rodrick now was the one who told his story about Rodrigo, both of you bonding from the similar hatred. He told you he caught Rodrigo making out with his ex-girlfriend, Jessica, who he only met for half a week at Isla de Corales and how he sulked the rest of the week after that. Crazy.
"I can't believe you had a girlfriend you met the same fucking week! Much less, get cheated on the same week with a fuggly dude!" You had your palms opened in front of you to emphasize it more.
"Me too" He leaned on his palm as he now realized how ridiculous that week was. You stared at him mouth agape when you noticed how he was sulking a bit at the memory.
"Don't sulk too much now, Heffley." You smiled at him as you patted his shoulder, "We both know you're far much better than that fuggly dude, Rodrigo. Jessica sure was a fuggly bitch too, if you ask me."
What you said made him laugh as he muttered a 'yeah' while you both continued talking. With the last bite of your banana split, you both decided to head back to where his parents were as Rodrick told you he craved more snacks, you rolled your eyes in reply to what he said.
You sat down at a deck chair next to Rodricks when you both got to where Mr. and Mrs. Heffley was. Rodrick wore his sunglasses and ate some sandwiches his mom offered while you both people watched.
Manny suddenly came running towards your side, smiling cutely at you. You lifted him up to sit on your lap, "Aren't you so cute!"
This little devil is not cute at all. Rodrick glared at Manny on your lap behind his sunglasses while Manny stuck his tongue out, teasing his brother. Susan approached them after sometime, grabbing and telling Manny to give you and Rodrick some space on your 'date'.
"I'm gonna go swim" You quickly stood up from the chair and pulled down your jean shorts.
"I'll come with—" Rodrick stopped as he checked you out when you pulled down your shorts in front of him, he pulled his sunglasses down as his jaw slightly dropped, "—you"
"Let's go, Rodrick!" His stare was cut off when you called him, looking around if someone saw him before he threw his sunglasses at his chair and followed you to the pool.
