for those who have threads with Enigma
Tomorrow from 6 am EST to 6 pm EST she will be speaking in nothing but "what the fox say?" in all active threads. You have been warned
He shook his head at her question, his eyes darting, but his face remained impassive. "Not at all," he said as she went to grab her snacks. He smiled gently when she returned & sort of let out a breath at her question. Where to begin? "Well...I wasn't born here. Far, far away. Long time ago. My father was a general, my mother a nurse. I got married too young & lost everything." He still smiled. "After that I just traveled. Nothing too exciting." He took a sip of wine. "Tell me about you."
Jamie shrugged and crunched a chip. "I was born far away and a long time ago. My dad was a farmer and my mother was a homemaker. I married young, loved well, but lost everything, and started traveling to escape it all." She smiled over her wine glass. "And I swear that's the truth, I'm not just rattling off what you said to be creepy. Oh, and I dance." She smiled proudly. "Prima ballerina of the highest degree. I tour a lot- helps with the need to travel- and sometimes I do residencies for a few weeks in the more major cities."
He chuckled softly, shaking his head some as he looked over at the dog who had such an innocent look on his face, he knew there was no way to truly be angry with him. "Conversation would be lovely," he said, even as his stomach protested. Yet another reason he hated being human. He needed sleep & food more than he did as a Time Lord, & it annoyed him having to stop to satisfy those needs. But he wasn't about to ask, that was impolite & he wanted the companionship, at least for the evening.
She beamed. "I'm always up for conversation! But I hope you won't think less of me if I eat in front of my guest." Jamie jumped up, set her wine down- giving the dog a serious 'don't even think about it' look- and darted to the kitchen, where she grabbed a bag of chips and a jar of dip before returning. "I'm a bit hungry myself, sorry. But hey, if you want some, feel free to take 'em." Grabbing a handful, she smiled. "Tell me about yourself, Doctor John."
He honestly didn't drink much, tea for him, but he took the wine glass without complaint & smiled at her gratefully. If he was going to go all out & bare his soul to her, might as well let a little bit loose. "It's brilliant, thank you." Gingerly he took a sip, smacking his lips together before grinning. "You're right, it's the best!" He glanced at the dog who stared up at him with large eyes & chuckled. "He sure knows how to work his way into your heart, doesn't he?"
"Yeah, well, he seems to have a sense of who in the room is most likely to give into him," she chuckled, sitting on the other end of the couch and patting the dog's back. "Behave! You know what happened last time! He got a rum cake I made," she added in explanation, a little pink tinging her cheeks. "With a dog this big, no counter his high enough and no corner is far enough. Ate the entire thing while I was at work and spent the day stumbling around like a drunkard." Quickly, she spared a glance at the clock on the wall. "Sunset isn't for another hour or two; can I offer you any dinner? Snacks? Enthralling conversation?"
The place was small, but brilliant. The Doctor let his eyes linger over the sparse furniture & the few knickknacks. It was cozy & comforting, something he hadn't felt in awhile so he easily settled himself down on the overstuffed sofa & let Freddy jump on him, hoping it was okay. "This place is brilliant," he said honestly, grinning over at her.
"I love it well enough myself," she chuckled, watching the dog and her new acquaintance with a beaming smile. For a few minutes she vanished into the kitchen, returning with two glasses of red wine and a dog biscuit. "I don't know if you drink wine," she said as she offered him the glass, "but this is from near my home; an old Amish couple I know make it, only a few bottles every year, and it's my favorite. They pick the grapes right after the first frost, and it's sweet and a little spicy and perfect." Jamie tossed the treat to Freddy. "Just be careful, 'cause he'll try and get it."
