The Clarence, Balham High Road SW12

Overview

Part of the Capital Pub chain, The Clarence attracts the after work suits as well as the scruffier crowd who come for sky sports. Table football, retro arcade games and bar billiards are a welcome diversion. They only have two ales and tend to serve at least one of their own brew from The Florence brew pub in Herne Hill; Weasel, Bonobo or Beaver.

Dalts says: "Not really a real ale pub with just two pumps, but their own ales are pretty good. There are few nice surprises from time to time, but Doom Bar is too often a (boring) fall-back choice. A little more selection would be nice although there are some decent lagers - Meantime London lager or Noble - are a desperate but decent alternative" 

Chilli says: "A proper dog bowl is always brought to me, quite often with a pigs ear or other treat. I get a lot of fussing from the staff which is nice but I'd actually prefer they give me something soft to lie on rather than the hard floor. Not getting any younger and this is not good for my arthritis".
