my god this movie was hard to watch. tom's character really was an oasis from all the horror

Alec in Doing Money (2018) He plays Luca, a pimp that kidnaps and trafficks a Romanian girl from the UK to Sweden. 

This role is a vast departure from Gheorge and, while it’s not a HUGE part for Alec, it does show his range in that respect. It was a challenge to watch all the way through because watching young girls be exploited and abused IS, you know, not my jam. But also, and I keep forgetting this because part of him will always and forever be Gheorge to me, Alec is TALL and his physicality is formidable. I don’t know if he can actually handle himself in real life but he can be one SCARY MOTHERFKER on screen. 

Someone on twitter was talking about his role in this project and also Baptiste, which I haven’t seen but WILL SOON, and wanting Alec to get different roles than these bad guy stereotypes. And, you know, as an actor of color, which I do consider Alec to be, that’s always going to be a challenge. If you don’t consider him an actor of color I give you the opportunities Josh has had since God’s Own Country, which have been many and varied, and I AM PROUD OF HIM FOR EACH ONE SO MUCH! However, contrast that with Alec’s opportunities and roles and there IS a difference. 

I know a couple of friends from childhood that actually make theri living as actors and nothing else; one lives in LA. As a Latinx actor she has struggled her whole life to move beyond, like, maid parts and female gang members. It’s damn hard. 

This is why I am so grateful for Francis’ role in Alec’s professional and personal life. I love that he supports Alec, hires him, elevates him, unfailingly, all the time. He’s made a huge difference in Alec’s career already, and continues to do so. Alec has spoken about the importance of GOC and Francis on his career many times. Sometimes having one person, the right person, see you and believe in you, makes all the difference. 

Because our boy deserves ALL the roles in ALL the projects, always. :-)
