Batman vs Superman: a second viewing
Watching Batman vs Superman for a second time was a far different experience than the first time. And I must say it dramatically improved the movie for me. I could write an essay about why people were too harsh on this film and how they may have missed the point that it was making about it’s heroes but it doesn’t matter, honestly, because in the end I enjoyed it. I loved it, in fact. Every scene I felt like I was getting goosebumps and a rush of emotion for any number of reasons. Maybe it’s the huge DC and comic book fan in me that sees the true value in this film that many casual movie goers missed. Dawn of Justice was not only an introspective and unique look at how the world may deal with superheroes, but it was a complex, and deep character study of our heroes and the way we see them ultimately better each other into being the heroes that we all know and love. If it was tough to see Batman killing and branding people and Superman being a kind of mopey, lost, soul it’s because that is how Zack Snyder wanted you to feel as you went through the growing pains right along with them. By the end of the movie, hell even by the end of Batman and Superman’s fight there is a distinct change in the way our heroes present themselves. It’s not just a movie about heroes coming together and fighting and saving the world again. It’s a film about the purest kind of hope that only these heroes manage to show us time and time again. That is why I absolutely cannot wait to see what the future of the DCEU holds. I originally gave this movie I believe a 6.5 or 7/10 rating. I’m officially changing that to an 8/10. I can’t deny from a film standpoint there were issues, but the core concept and characters are what truly made this film special and I can’t wait to watch it over and over again.
I'm finally watching Batman Vs Superman again. A second viewing for a movie like this I feel will make all the difference in actually establishing an opinion about the film. Simply put, the first time I watched it I enjoyed certain aspects, idea's, and the vision the movie presented but thought it lacked in execution leading it to be less successful than it could have been.
Hi. We both know that both bruce wayne and tony stark are being portrayed of suffering from PTSD in BvS and Iron man 3. In your opinion how is their PTSD is being portrayed and which one do you think is handled better??
My opinion on this subject?
Tony Stark’s ptsd is portrayed in a way that is told from ahealthy person’s perspective, for healthy audiences’ benefit. It is coherentand “cool”-looking and easy-to-understand, when ptsd in real life is anythingBUT those.
Tony Stark became more productive, more dedicated, and morefocused when he is supposedly suffering from the mental condition; while mentalillness in real life tends to turn people less productive, less dedicated, andless focused. In short:Tony’s ptsd has all the “flashy” and “cool” parts of the illness, without anyof the horrible parts that truly messed up people’s life.
Finally, Tony Stark’s ptsd is framed as something to overcome inIM3 movie narrative, and he pretty much didby the end of the movie. Frankly, it makes no sense. People don’t “overcome”mental illnesses, people learn to cope and live with it, just like how peopledo with most physical chronic illnesses.

Bruce Wayne’s ptsd is portrayed in a way that is told from anill person’s perspective, and certainly not for healthy audiences’ benefit. Itis incoherent and jarring to experience, that people to this day are stilldebating how much of his nightmares are “real” and how much are not. Thatresembles more closely what it would be like in real life though, flashes andepisodes where patients are genuinely unable to tell the difference betweenreality and not.
Bruce Wayne became more violent and more paranoid; he getstunnel vision and zooms out on what’s going on around him, to the point that hewas called out on being blind on multiple occasion and by multiple characters(and even by some audiences). What’s more, he contemplated Suicide-by-Cop fortwo whole years.
Alfred said it is suicide.
Bruce outright stated that it is going to be his legacy, leftbehind after death.
Diana receives his Last Wish right before the gladiator match, basicallyasking her without being too explicit to take up the mission of finding theothers when Bruce is gone.
And even after all the preparation, Bruce’s ptsd still paralyzeshim on the most important battlefield of his life! Though in the end it turnsout to be a good thing, it doesn’t change the fact that if his opponent wasanyone but Superman, an episode like that would cost him his life. In short: Bruce’s ptsd was shown inits entirely, especially the parts that messed up people’s life. Not tomention, it was never framed as something to overcome in BvS film narrative;it is something Bruce learned to live with and would keep on living with it.
These are a few of the many reasons why I prefer the way Bruce Wayne is portrayed immensely more.
So I saw bvs for the third time, and with a bigger audience, and the whole place went crazy. All I heard was good things from people who walked out of the theater. And when wonder woman showed up? Everyone starting screaming and cheering. More proof that what the critics say don't mean shit to this movie. This movie might not be loved by everyone but it makes enough of an impact with people that makes them enjoy it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, batman v superman is incredible.
BvS was released on Good Friday.
I'm going to watch BvS twice as many times as I originally intended, because bias critics can go fk themselves.
