You are right in the fact that Dokai is the correct spelling. It was first introduced in the official star trek cooking manual!
Page 19, Paragraph 2, Line 22 et seqq. to be exact!
The book states:
A variety of fowl, the Dokai, is ES on farms in the circumpolar areas, It is valuable for the eggs it produces, and for its habit of keeping weeds and insects out of the fields. It is a fairly large bird, with a voracious appetite. Its eggs are two or three times as large as most chicken eggs.
If he does end up hatching the egg, Sarek will have a grand ol time with his bigass bird.
Also don't mind me rambling I love obscure creatures that are barely or not at all mentioned in star trek canon :)

That is really cool, thanks so much for sharing!! I've been hearing so much about star trek cooking manual and I've seen a few excerpts from it that I'm thinking of adding it to my st book hunt/collection, I think it would be a lot of fun to make some of the meals in there.
