And this year's summer doll is… Ely!

It's been a while since I used one of my OCs for my dolls (I may have too much OCs…)

I really love her, I had such a hard time making her hair and painting her face, but it was worth it! I really wanted to make a doll with box braids, I also got my hands on some cool iridescent fabric to make her clothes and accessories.

Also also, since she's a summer doll, she get a swimming outfit!

(shoutout to that unknow person who gave away that mini inflatable flamingo ring at my local secondhand shop, I love it so much)

Details below:

So the doll is a Barbie Dream Bestie, they're really cute dolls, save for the fact that their feets do not fit any barbie shoes (??). This is why I had to get her Rainbow High doll shoes, good thing they look really good on her!

Btw, I had to DRILL to get the braids inside her head!

Here's a closeup of the bag, I made it in the shape of a floppy disk (old guy voice remember floppy disks, kids?), as I was trying to go for a vaporwave vibe for her.

Finally, her earrings and bracelets for the swimming outfit are actually phosphorescent beads (? idk how to call them), they look like little neons, so they were perfect for her!

All clothes were handmade.

I think I'm finally happy with Clawdeens hair! 💜 I might still add some gloss and piercings to her face though?

backside… the bottom layer is thin braids and the ponytail is all thicker twists. I wanted to give the end of the twists a little ball shaped poof but for that I think s-shaped or smaller curls would work better than the crimped hair I rerooted her with;;

I've been spending the last few months rerooting some of my Skulltimate Secrets dolls.

Frankie (Snowflake and Black Magick from DollyHair and Deja Blue from The Doll Planet) has a headband that fits now lol.

Clawdeen (Ultraviolet from DollyHair and Purple Rasberry from The Doll Planet) I hand-braided, which took up most of the time (I know pre-braided doll hair exists, I just didn't feel like it).

And Draculaura (Cerise and Brandywine from ShimmerLocks) has hair that lays a bit more flat now.

I'm really happy with them, but I've also got a more full custom that I'm excited to get started with.

Jan 13, 2018: Holes? Gaps? Cut the ears off your cat or wolf doll? Liquid Fusion is amazing at sealing up those tears in vinyl.

(I wasn't sure if I wanted to share this because it sounds so corny and a bit pretentious when I'm still learning years later. But maybe someone out there doesn't know that urethane adhesives are great for gluing and patching up vinyl.

It does yellow with time though, as I found out a couple of years ago looking over some WIPs. It shouldn't be an issue for scalps that are going to be covered in hair, but something to keep in mind if it's going to be applied somewhere visible.
