I finally finished my Winter doll!!

It took me a while to style the hair and paint the face but he’s finally done!

And this year's summer doll is… Ely!

It's been a while since I used one of my OCs for my dolls (I may have too much OCs…)

I really love her, I had such a hard time making her hair and painting her face, but it was worth it! I really wanted to make a doll with box braids, I also got my hands on some cool iridescent fabric to make her clothes and accessories.

Also also, since she's a summer doll, she get a swimming outfit!

(shoutout to that unknow person who gave away that mini inflatable flamingo ring at my local secondhand shop, I love it so much)

Details below:

So the doll is a Barbie Dream Bestie, they're really cute dolls, save for the fact that their feets do not fit any barbie shoes (??). This is why I had to get her Rainbow High doll shoes, good thing they look really good on her!

Btw, I had to DRILL to get the braids inside her head!

Here's a closeup of the bag, I made it in the shape of a floppy disk (old guy voice remember floppy disks, kids?), as I was trying to go for a vaporwave vibe for her.

Finally, her earrings and bracelets for the swimming outfit are actually phosphorescent beads (? idk how to call them), they look like little neons, so they were perfect for her!

All clothes were handmade.

Anyway, short hairstyles for dolls are tough, I had no idea that would be a problem.

Type of s I had to do with water and hairdryer in order to lay the strands the way I wanted btw.

Aqua, AKA mew candyfloss 🩷

so, some things about the process behind her:

her base was daisy jean from barbie (I just adore the dream besties, I think they're like. a cute cross between barbie and bratz):

I thought, those proportions are prettty close to how I draw characters when I saw the doll, and I had it in my head that I could TOTALLY style her already pink hair! Um. wrong! I am Not good at styling doll hair, it turns out. I ended up shaving it off. #bald

(I still think the accessories are perfect for aqua too, tho, esp the cotton candy. But unfortunately I cannot find them after the process of moving rooms...I know they have to be in my craft drawer SOMEWHERE, but. Like. Can't find em rn...)

I think the sculpted hair at least fits aqua's lore a bit better?? if nothing else since she really is actually canonically always wearing wigs?

I didn't add the bows that are on her shoulder straps because I could NOT get them to look decent, and her boot bows are higher up on the doll than her actual design (realized midway they just look better up there...)

I didn't add a tail, because I want her to stay pretty posable and I thought it might get in the way of her sitting... the doll is pretty posable! Which is nice, compared to Pheobe, who just. Does not have articulation at all, poor thing... She's also like, a full head taller than Pheobe too. it's not only that she's a larger doll, it was the boot sculpt I had to do to get Aqua's feet the right shape, that sorta megaman-esque vibe yk?? They're a lil lumpy if you squint too close. Please be nice about her Lumps I don't know how to sculpt and was working with hot plastic and dollar general air dry clay TwT

I think the fur trim being rly big is kinda funny. It was that, or pipe cleaners for the fur, which... you could see the wire thru, so I did not like as much. I also tried metallic paint the first attempt at painting her skin, but promptly removed that and swapped over to matte + glossy clear coat to get that metal look, because although the metallic worked SUPER well for her kitty form, it just. was SO patchy on the doll for some reason?? Sad, because the metallic does have a pink shift TwT oh well!!

I really wanna make a fake box for her at SOME point, as a kinda reference to this sketch I never finished:

OH ALSO: SHE DOES HAVE HER BLUE KITTY PAW PADS PAINTED ON THE BOTTOM OF HER FEET. I didn't take any pics of that, but they are too iconic for me to leave out. :3c
