I totally meant the characters- fandom can suck it, Re: Marisha and her choices. And you're right about Vax, of course. But it seems to me that Keyleth will spend a lot of time telling people how wrong or immoral or disrespectful they are (see Percy/Scanlon/Vax and Reginald) and not only does she not get the same amount of pushback from the other characters, she doesn't see how she has acted the same in different situations. It's as if she thinks who don't share her
morality can make moral decisions. Back to the Clasp and "those people". Does she not realize that Vax is a their and assassin as well? Does she think he's not capable of loyalty or love? Does she not think a Clasp members might have a mother he wishes to keep safe, even though he thieves for a living? That's what bugs me about Keyleth, her binary viewpoint, and how she condems traits in others and doesn't see them in herself. I get that Marisha is doing that on
purpose, and very well too, but it drives me nuts watching Keyleth do it
Yeah, I get that, too. There are plenty of moments I want to shake her and say “get a clue!!” It’s great character work, but it doesn’t always mean it’s easy to watch. But to me, it feels much the same as when, for example, Percy decides to do something as stupid as give Grog the sword. There’s a meta reason the actor is making the choice, but you want to grab the character by the shoulders and go “WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU??”
(Re: Vax and the Clasp, though, Vax himself did plenty to distance himself from the members, and obviously thinks of himself as “better” than them just as much as Keyleth, so I don’t blame her so much for that - or, more accurately, I blame both of them equally.)
I assume that Keyleth will have her own Vestige-related story arc at some point; I’m hoping that part of that deals with her need to realize that there are more shades of gray in the world than she’s yet acknowledged, and that sometimes a leader has to make the best bad decision they can under the circumstances.
