Lynne, if you want a fun detective show: S.C.I. mystery. The bickering/bromance between the captain and the profiler, who have known eachother since they were kids is delightful! Good crimes to be solved too. (added incentive: Yu Wenzhou actor with all his muscles on display)

this is my best day ever because I am getting recced one of my all time favorite shows!!! sci my beloved 💙💙💙💙💙 i love it a titally normal amount. the ridiculousness. the shenanigans. the pseudo psychology magic. the opening cpr scene omfg. beloved beloved beloved. gao hanyu was really in it to win it in this drama. hot and gay and with all his muscles. and of course my favorite best boy jiang long as the bestest boy bai chi.

(I know I know, I say while sobbing. how can you say this is such a longtime favorite show if you STILL haven't finished it yet. all I can say in my defense is that I am truly the slowest drama watcher. also I'm scared of the ending (no spoilers please!) and also if I finish it I can't look forward to watching the last few episodes.)

but maybe this is the kick in the pants I finally need to watch the last couple episodes so thank u so much lovely anon!!!

Chemistry lectures are great because we get to find out things like how Vicks VapoRubs and methamphetamine are enantiomers and have the same chemical formula, same molecular formula and connectivity of atoms but differ in their spatial arrangement. Specifically, enantiomers are mirror images of each other that cannot be superimposed onto one another (or chiral to each other)

So it’s kinda funny for me to think that they’re the same thing basically, it’s just due to their structures they bind differently to active sites in the body and produce different affects.

But you can also tell if they’re différer cuz they rotate light in different directions if you put them under equipments and observed with polarized light. One enantiomer may rotate polarized light in a clockwise direction (dextrorotatory), while its mirror image rotates light in the opposite, counterclockwise direction (levorotatory).

So meth will rotate light one way, and Vicks VapoRub the other, but some meth dealers will mix the two together so if it’s a perfect mixture of the two they cancel out and no light is observed cuz of the opposite rotations… (which is how the police can tell what mixture of drugs you have btw)

But anyways… Vicks VapoRub and Meth have the same formula and are mirror images, but are also really different…

Does our brains have like some sorta of electricity?

Yea! There are ions of molecules in the brain which are charged particles that create signals on the form of electric currents in the brain which we receive in nerves as signals

Basically there are these things called Voltage-gated channels which specialized proteins embedded in the cell membrane, and they respond to changes in the membrane potential (voltage) by opening or closing, regulating the flow of ions across the membrane. In the context of the brain, it’s sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) voltage-gated chan

And cells are polarized, so more negative inside than outside. So when a signal is released, and breaks a certain threshold, voltage-gated sodium channels open, allowing sodium ions to rush into the cell. This depolarizes the cell and triggers an action potential.

Then the action poetical travels along this bit in the neuron, the axon, and the signal is sent in an electric signal. Other channel gates open once the signal is done and depolarizes the cell back to normal… and the electric signal carries through the brain til it reaches the point it needs to reach…

So yea, electricity and charges are always happening in the brain :)

im not sure if you know about this but like when scientists are going to like inspect stuff from space like asteroids and stuff, don't they like go in a specific room or smth and wear like protective suits ig? and like then inspect the material in some container? right?

cause like my oc sarah is an intern and so she works in one of those labs and then there's this sword that is also somehow a meteor

Yea! They tend to have to wear hazmat suits or highly protective equipments to examine space materials, such as samples from celestial bodies/ asteroids or other extraterrestrial objects, to prevent potential contamination of both the sample and the Earth

Like to protect against potential unknown viruses or mutagens we don’t know about ig?

And because why not, kinda how the process works :

Isolation and Containment: The outer space materials are carefully collected and isolated to prevent any contact with Earth's atmosphere or environment.

Transportation in Controlled Environments: The collected materials are transported in containers designed to maintain a controlled environment so like vacuum sealed

Then it has to be dealt with in a secure lab

Then the scientists put on their hazmat suits (who vu get so hot 😖) and gloves and other protective gear to protect themselves and surroundings. Keeps things sterile

A bunch of strict protocols are in place

The goal is to obtain accurate and untainted information about the composition and characteristics of outer space materials.

But yea, it’s a whole convoluted process.

Also!! That sounds really cool that Sarah will get to do that and find a cool sword! Except she has to suffer a lot of gear and equipment haha.

hey do you think like its possible for someone to have dormant gene?? like their grand grand parent had smth but their dad didnt??

So, it's possible for someone to carry a dormant or recessive gene that may not manifest in their parents but gets passed down through generations. Genes can skip generations, and individuals may inherit recessive traits from grandparents or even further back in their family tree without those traits being expressed in their parents.

(Long ass bio answer below if you want lmao)

Genotypes represent the genetic makeup of an individual, while phenotypes are the observable traits resulting from that genetic makeup, and because genes can be dominant or recessive, say eye colour.

Gene B is brown eyes (dominant) and b is blue (recessive) and each person has two copies of the gene, 1 from each parent.

So the genotypes are BB (brown) Bb (also brown, but you have an unexpressed blue eye gene) or bb (blue)

If your grandpa had blue eyes, bb, and your dad received a (b) gene from him but a (B) gene from his mom, he’d have Bb which is expressed in a brown phenotype.

But say your mom also has Bb brown eyes, then (see the horrible chart i made from class)

The circles are the genes, the base colours are the actual eye colours btw.

Then the genes will mix like this in possible combinations genotypes/phenotype for what their kids will express (each is 25% possible)

Then they could have a kid with blue eyes, like the grandparent, but unlike their parents if that makes sense?
