Heyy I did talk about working in 3D project a while ago... It's this one, I wanted to show once it's finished but I haven't been drawing so this has to kind of compensate for that... I'll talk a bit about the process under the cut :)
Well this is kind of a rocky ride because I have been winging it for the most part... I'm applying a pipeline I learnt on my game dev degree but I lost practice so I've been remembering stuff as I went.
First things first, a plan and some references! I did gather more specially when doing the textures, but I made myself some guides so I could have a clearer idea of general volume. However I did forget some details like the TV badge omfg I have to do it now and it's going to be a pain in the ass... so yeah... never rush the pre-production, lesson learned.
After tweaking a bit a base model I bought a looong while ago (best 5€ I've spent) I did the high poly on Zbrush!! There are some small details I'm not fuuuully happy with but I was obsessing too much over those things and still had so much work ahead, so I stopped for my own good.
Before getting into the retopo I took a break, mostly because I've been having a rocky relationship with 3D modelling... Luckily I got my motivation back from the Tenna Zine discord, It's been so heartwarming the reception my wips had in there and It helped me love my own project a bit more.
After a smooth baking process, texturing has been harder than I expected. My goal is to have like a semi-realistic finish in which the materials do have these details that give them the right feel but with some extra details here and there (idk if that makes sense?). I've fought with the finish of the suit for so long it's been kind of crazy.
That's when a friend (@irudraws ily) helped me suggesting it to make it velvety (carpet Tenna screenshot as a bonus). Also I could move the star-pant pattern cause it was on its own layers and instantly worked SO well it was crazy.
The rest of the process was always kind of samey, a lot of tweaking some extra references and resources searching... The only remarkable thing is that I have lost my mind too many times doing some stuff from cero, only to then find a material that's exactly what I wanted...
So now the stuff I have to do before I finish this would be... Correcting a bit the rig (i've already weight painted but I feel like It could be a bit better), modeling and texturing the details I forgot, making the visemes/expressions, and putting it all together in Unity!
Buuuuuuut I do also want to do some bonus stuff like the mic, rocket boots, extendable antennas. Those will have to wait tho I really want to have something kind of finished before getting to those so I don't lose motivation with stuff that might get a bit too complicated (some details kinda fall outside of stuff I've done beforehand...).
I'm preeeetty sure I could finish this by the end of this week, there's a couple of thing I do have to do first because they're more time senstive.
I still love him and this Is the first 3D thing i post on this profile so please be kind lmao.
I have done this today in a few hours on my phone because I found out that Nomad Sculpt is available for Android!! (Imagine paying for ZBrush and then using Nomad while on vacation--)
