Today's Dolltober 2023 theme on Instagram is "Stranger Things." So this is the perfect time to introduce my latest custom doll - Eleven! I'd heard so much about Stranger Things, and finally I watched it a couple of years ago, and immediately got hooked. It was a bummer to have waited so long for the fourth season to debut because of covid, and now the fifth and final season is delayed because of the writer's and actor's strike. Yet, I don't want it to end LOL.

Anyway, I was thinking of what I could do, and then it hit me - I could use an old extra Todd doll I had lying around and turn him into Eleven! He already had the buzz cut hair, so all I'd have to do is paint his eyes brown and have an outfit made. Yes, the 90s Todd and Stacie dolls had larger eyes, so this doll doesn't particularly look like a person, BUT that is the style of Mattel dolls of the 80s, which is the time period the show takes place in, so I say it works!

For the outfit, I knew I wanted the iconic pink dress/blue jacket ensemble. So I commissioned Molita's Closet since she has made a lot of 90s style Stacie clothes. The new Stacie won't work because she's larger and shaped differently than the original. She's also the seamstress who made Renesmee's outfit for that custom project. And on top of that, she had an extra Gymnastics Stacie body (articulated) that she offered to give me as well! So Eleven would be articulated! Not Made to Move, since that didn't exist back then, but good enough for me!

For props, I instantly knew that I wanted to make Eggos boxes. Eleven loves her Eggos! So I found an actual printable template of the Eggos box used in 1984 (when the first season takes place), resized it, and printed out several, then I glued them together. :D

So there you have it! My custom Eleven doll! I'm very pleased with how she turned out. :) Source photos at the end.

No bones about it - Skelita is proud of her skeritage! She's eager to meet all members of her familia during Dia de Muertos festivities. My submission to today's Dolltober 2023 theme on Instagram of "bones."

Today's #dolltober2023 theme on Instagram is "Sheet Ghost." Kiyomi Haunterly is the daughter of the Noppera-bō (Japanese faceless ghost).

The Noppera-bō (のっぺらぼう), or faceless ghost, is a Japanese yōkai (strange apparition) that looks like a human but has no face. They are known primarily for frightening humans, but are usually otherwise harmless. They appear at first as ordinary human beings, sometimes impersonating someone familiar to the victim, before causing their features to disappear, leaving a blank, smooth sheet of skin where their face should be. Hence today's theme!

Noppera-bō are sometimes mistakenly referred to as a mujina, an old Japanese word for a badger or raccoon dog. Although the mujina can assume the form of the other, noppera-bō are usually disguised as humans. Such creatures were thought to sometimes transform themselves into noppera-bō in order to frighten humans.

Today's Dolltober 2023 theme on Instagram is "Grave." Samara's grave in The Ring was pretty terrifying, especially considering she was still alive when she was entombed. But equally horrifying was when she came out of it, and THROUGH the TV!!! YIKES!!!

Fun fact: The Ring was originally a Japanese movie from 1998 (happy 25th anniversary to it!), remade in America in 2002. I thought this Azone Lycee (Japanese doll) was appropriate for this shot... the way her eyes are red and her black hair hangs over her face gave me instant inspiration, and it's a tribute to both versions of the movie. :D And I just happened to have a white dress that worked perfectly!
