I loved drawing Gator with his Gator tail. The Ocean is a dark and scary place, especially for Mer who don't like being alone.

Mer Prompt #119

A shark mer that adopts a dolphin mer, keeping close to the pup despite its need to stay low in the water in order to make sure its safe.

It allows the pup to sleep on it's back, said shark mer keeping it above the surface of the water to breathe during naps and at night.

As it gets older the shark mer stays close/in the area to protect its pup, even when it finds a pod of its own.

ooh a shark mer and a dolphin mer. would be interesting if the dolphin mer holds his breath underwater and surfaces for air while the shark mer is unable to breathe above water and and they mostly communicate with sign language or smth since they can only talk in water or in air but not both

Interesting concept, anon. I like it.

Shark mer: unable to breathe above water comfortably if at all. (Speaking is pretty much a no out of water, or at least very uncomfortable)

Dolphin mer: can possibly (?) speak underwater but doesn't (uses up stored air requiring a sooner trip to breathe).

Some form of sign language or signaling between them seems like a good compromise to their situation.

Percy and Thomas are both Dolphins and obsessed with human treats. Thomas is a Bottlenose Dolphin and Percy is a Commerson's Dolphin.

Mer Prompt #90

Mer A is a top predator type mer that was raised by dolphin type mers. They all sleep either in the water or on a beach huddled around them protectively to keep them safe.

Humans and even bigger predgors don't even try anything for fear of the dolphins' wrath against them for harming or trying to harm their one ton, sharp toothed, Apex predator pup.

Mer Prompt #93

A pod of dolphin mers finds a sick shark type mer floating about. The shark mer has been floating at the surface of the water for days, skin sunburnt and injured from fisherman that had tried to catch them earlier.

The dolphin mers see the fisherman a ways a way, figuring out that they’re more than likely waiting for the shark to weaken enough to catch and kill them.

Besides being prey to predator the dolphin mers surround the shark, doing everything they can to tend to the shark as they weakly snap their teeth at them and try to attack.

Soon enough the shark mer gives up, allowing them to tend to their wounds without trouble and help them with their sickness.

During the night the shark mer slips out, fully healed as the dolphin mers sleep.

Saddened by the lost company the pod moves on, only to be visited by the shark mer, the other with a large enough fish to feed the pod for the day in thanks.

Mer Prompt #12

Mer A is a great white and finds a bunch of orphaned guppies alone with no parents in sight (Which is nearly unheard of and usually doesn’t end well for the guppies) They take them all under their fin and even though parenting for a whole different species is challenging and mostly touch and go they manage.

While traveling Mer A finds a pod of dolphin mers and they let the guppies be cared for by the pod but they’re still close by (The guppies go back to them when they settle down to sleep though) After a few months the pod more or less gets used to Mer A and they don’t find it a bad deal considering they care for the guppies in exchange for protection which is a win win situation for all.

In the pod they meet Mer B who is a dolphin and raise the guppies together.
