ABC rebroadcasts the all-star tribute celebrating the unveiling of the opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) with a two-hour program of music, dance and the spoken word, “Taking the Stage: African American Music and Stories That Changed America, airing Wednesday, June 24 (8:00-10:00p.m. EDT). McClurkin joins influential entertainers such as: Christina Aguilera, Alvin Ailey dancers, Patti Austin, Angela Bassett, Jon Batiste, Mary J. Blige, Shirley Caesar, Dave Chappelle, Chloe x Halle, Chuck D, Gary Clark Jr., Common, Cynthia Erivo, Fantasia, Jamie Foxx, Doug E. Fresh, Robert Glasper, Savion Glover, Dave Grohl with Trouble Funk, Herbie Hancock, Tom Hanks, Samuel L. Jackson, Quincy Jones, Rashida Jones, Elijah Kelley, Gladys Knight, John Legend, Mary Mary, Janelle Monae, Ne-Yo, Jada Pinkett, Will Smith, Octavia Spencer, Chris Tucker, Usher, Jesse Williams, Oprah Winfrey and Stevie Wonder.
The production was filmed on Sept. 23, 2016, and originally broadcast on ABC nationwide on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017. The executive producers were Don Mischer and Quincy Jones, along with Don Mischer Productions' Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare.
Entertainment icon Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson partnered with Spike TV, Casey Patterson Entertainment and Don Mischer Productions to create a monumental holiday event, “Rock the Troops,” a music and entertainment experience created to honor, inspire and captivate the brave men and women of America’s Armed Services. This compelling and modern tribute emanated from the historical Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and brought together A-list headliners from the worlds of music, comedy and film to debut December 13 on Spike.
“My respect for our troops is boundless. This December we will honor the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and given that I have military in my family, vets and Navy SEALs, the goal was to create an event that honors our troops and their families in epic fashion. Seven Bucks Productions and I are privileged to have this opportunity to salute America’s finest and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all their dedication, bravery, sacrifice and loyalty to our country,” says Johnson.

The list of Hollywood heavyweights who took part include Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Riggle, Scott Eastwood, Terry Crews, and surfing superstar Laird Hamilton. George Clooney is featured in a taped segment.
Musical performances include Nick Jonas, Flo Rida, Tenacious D, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aaron Lewis, along with stand-up performances from Jeff Ross and J.B. Smoove.
“Rock the Troops,” gives back to our nation’s heroes for their dedication, bravery and sacrifice with a night of epic entertainment, big stars, and incredible moments.
This inaugural event also showcases Spike’s pro social campaign, Veterans Operation Wellness, whose mission is to inspire veterans to make the same commitment to their health and wellness that they made to their country. Spike has a long history honoring our country’s heroes through programs such as “Hire A Vet” and “Fight For The Troops” as well as celebrated moments in the annual “Guys Choice Awards.”
Casey Patterson, Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia are Executive Producers alongside Don Mischer, Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare for Don Mischer Productions. Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz of Seven Bucks will serve as Co-Executive Producers. Glenn Weiss is Director and Jon Slusser, Spike’s Senior Vice President, Sports and Specials serves as the network’s Executive in Charge.
