Listen to "Mr Schwartz" chorus and then to "Don't Talk" chorus and let yourselves get carried away by Pet Sounds, just like Alex did. This album is one of his favourites and in this particular song I can hear the instrumental landscapes of The Car...
Alex, on his first musical memory: "It's always about being in the back of the car at that age, isn't it? There's a lot of things from that [era] I remember. Pet Sounds, certainly. [...] And with the Beach Boys, too, there's something involuntary about the reaction, hearing those harmonies. It's magic. I mean even the name of it, Pet Sounds, and the sleeve, I think is kind of mad. Them feeding the animals on the cover? Now you can't think of those two words without thinking about all the harmony and the imagination that's in there." X
But Mr. Schwartz is stayin' strong for the crew // Wardrobe's lint-rollin' your velveteen suit // And smudgin' dubbin' on your dancin' shoes
But don't talk, put your head on my shoulder // Don't talk, close your eyes and be still ...
(Alex's inner voice probably delivering both - simultaneously)
