Starbucks the Cat is Retiring!

silly and sentimental rambles below cut

In case you didn't know, the handsome fella in my icon is my senior kitty, Starbucks! He's currently 12 years old, and still absolutely rocking it 💕 His favorite activities are, in order: eating, cuddling, and sleeping. When he grooms himself he produces the wettest, foulest slurping sounds I've leaned not to hear. And most of all, I love him with all my heart and soul.

I'm not unfamiliar with pet loss. I've had cats before the ones I have now, and pet grief is actually what I want to focus my phd on.

Which is all to say, I think a lot about the time we have left. And while there's so much I could say on that, the point here is I've been thinking of what I want to do with my icon. Do I wait until he passes and make it a commemorative moment? Or do I do it ahead of time?

As you can probably guess by the title, I'm going with the latter! Maybe I'll still want to make a post about it but I ultimately decided that I wanted to give myself the option of grieving privately first. I'm sure that at some point I'll want to share my story after I've had time to myself. After all, I really want to do what I do because I want to help others who experience the same thing. :) That's really all, I think.

I need to know what happened between John and Oscar since last episode, because--like, clearly they just balls-to-the-wall do not talk about ANYTHING in their relationship! But clearly they came back from Newport and went back to their life and Oscar in his totally weird emotionally stunted way is acknowledging that John doesn’t want things to be different between them (”I don’t see why we can’t just carry on as before” / “Don’t worry, nothing will change”). And of course his “nothing will change” is a callback to 1.03 and “Why should that make any difference?” as well, but compared to their conversation in the restaurant last episode--which seemed to be Oscar saying that of course things are going to change/be reasonable/what did you expect and John digging in his heels and making about as much of a scene as he could--there’s a different dynamic in this episode’s scene, in which John is still obviously unhappy but not even putting up the kind of passive-aggressive fight we saw in 1.05/1.07 (”So it was money well spent” / “A smokescreen to hide your true nature”). I want to know what happened!
