@hatchetfield-rarepair-week summer day three; change + donation time
Hey friends! I'm down to one last suggested queer org to donate LRPD royalties to next month. If anyone has any suggestions that are near and dear to your heart, let me know so I can repopulate the list!
Whenever we ask for donations at whatever time of the year for whatever cause for how little amount of money, we don't need an explanation. We don't need you to tell us why whatever organization we're raising money for sucks, or why the place you give to is so much better. We don't need your life story about your terrible experience with it. A simple no will suffice.
day 306 - @hatchetfield-rarepair-week summer day three ; change
True story. Every year, same time every year, we start at my store asking customers for donations. This past year was either the first or second time since I've been there that we've had the option of adding any amount. So like, when it used to be you could donate $1, $2, $3 or $5, it was now that we could type in a code and add any amount you want. So if your total was $28.75 and you didn't want to donate like $2, we could ask if you wanted to donate the change so you'd have an even number for your total. You could donate the 25¢ instead and that 25¢ would go to the organization. Anyway after the first week, two weeks, the no's for donations way overpower the yes's. So the last couple of weeks, instead of asking if the customer would like to make a donation (implying they could donate any amount they like), I'd ask if they'd like to donate followed by "I can even out your total so there's no change." The answer to that depended on the customer as well as the total. So if someone had like $18.58, they might tell me to round it up to $20. In most cases with that question, when the answer was yes they were fine with donating the change. One of my supervisors asked that as well and was super successful. So one day during that time I had a customer. I asked him if he'd like to make a donation, and I specified that I could even out his total. The difference would have been 3¢ He said no. Like, I get if you can't donate a specific amount or if you don't have enough on you or are paying with an EBT card or something, but this guy was paying with cash. Meanwhile my supervisor was able to get another customer to donate the difference in their transaction, which was all of 5¢. I told them, when asked how I was doing with donations, about this customer. My supervisor was floored. They had one word for this customer: Stingy. Because he must have REALLY wanted those 3 pennies back.
