she is still , gazing at him like she is silently questioning why he is saying this to her . she knew he was protective of her , of how she was much more naive than he was , but whatever he was referring to was of no consequence to her . it had been a few comments from someone that wished to harass her , but she did not pay it any mind ; though when she explained the situation to him , it seems that it really did bother him in more ways than one . the intensity in which he expressed this was nice to know that he really does care , but he didn't have to go out of his way ; not for her . she didn't have to get him involved since she is not his problem and she would not make herself one for him .

when she came back from her small walk , she knew she would be in trouble . she had left without a word or telling him where she was going , and she did not blame him for being upset with her . as she enters the door , she already sees him there , his gesture leading to one of the seats . she sighs , dragging her feet as she makes her way over and sits down , already fiddling with her hands in her lap ; at least she had remembered to bring a coat this time , and that should count for something , right ? a weight lingers on her , not one in a physical sense , but more a feeling she has . something is boring into her , though what , she has not come across yet . her brows furrow as she brings her head up , glancing around to find the source of this sensation . when she locates such , she comes to find josiah near pinning her down with his eyes , like she cannot move in the slightest . there is a . . . perhaps a mischief to his gaze , a glimmer to his deep hues that she cannot read , and she would not wish to assume . she tilts her head , though soon enough she merely dips it back down , blushing furiously as teeth tug on her bottom lip .  night sky is a deep black color , a candle had to be carried inside the halls of her father's building . silent at night , empty save for the guard and his dog that politely greeted akina when she passed by him . her free hand pulls the knitted shawl upward along the white expanse of her shoulders , heels click on marble , the woman makes her way through the familiar corridors to reach her father's office . once expected to lead this business , what stopped osamu from imagining his child on top of it all was a small difference between girls and boys — a useless piece of meat , the lack of it turned her into a future housewife rather than his heir . he hopes his next child will be a boy , prays day and night , akina would be delighted if he was disappointed again . the door creaks open to reveal the short woman , her brows draw together ; what's that sound ? it's dark , and moonlight peeks out from behind the clouds just in time to let her see the man hunched over something on her father's desk . she's not startled , despite the confused frown on her youthful features . ❛ . . . sir ? ❜  she's seen him a few times , he came to their house to discuss business and akina was sent to her room because it was man to man conversation that didn't concern her and her mother . ❛ what are you— ❜  her gaze catches what's on the table , and her brows raise ; a safe , her father's safe . something not even akina had the keys for . and what could it be possibly doing under mister moreno’s wandering hands ? / @donmoreno

her shoulders are rigid , her head bowing down so she does not meet his eyes . it is good that he is quite a bit taller than she is , making this task much easier for her . though it may seem like she did , she really didn't . . . not that she could see . she is just someone with horrific luck , someone who wanted to help but never knew how , so they bore the brunt of the consequences . she takes in a breath , the sound semi shallow ; more pain , more bruises , par for the course . it did hurt , but she would live . " is . . . is t -- that one of t -- those . . . h -- hypith --- hypothetical q -- que -- questions ? " she asks , wondering if he truly wanted an answer , or if he already had one . [ COLLAPSE ] — for sender to collapse into receiver’s arms , unconscious or near unconsciousness ( he doesn't fall in her arms cuz he'd squish her but he falls right in front of her lol )

though it was against the orders of the physician who had seen her , she was up and about , pacing . he had gone out a while ago , who knows where , and it has been what felt like hours . she had been somewhat still for a while , but then the nerves set in , and it was all she could do . the movement pulled on a few of the healing injuries , causing her to wince semi violently , but she couldn't stop - it was like for some time she was possessed , and this was all she could do to expel the energy contained within her .

the sound of a door creaking open causes her to instantly freeze , turning her head to the side and releasing a sigh of relief when he walks in , though the state he is in brings the momentary calm feeling to a halt and she is back to concern . she is about to ask him where he was and what he was up to , but before she can , he falls to the ground at her feet . with a startled yelp , she is already in motion , going to his side and laying her fingertips on his neck to check for a pulse . " s ---- sir ? can y --- you h --- hear me ? " she calls out to him , not sure what she would do if he was not okay ; she didn't have the doctor's information , she didn't know anything about them or how to get in contact . she couldn't carry him anywhere either , but she couldn't leave him on the ground . . . . . It had been quite a while since the Devil had stepped foot on Mexican soil. It had admittedly been a while since he'd been anywhere outside of New York; that was the nature of complacency in his business. He'd built his castle, and he would waste away in it.

So perhaps he was a bit antsy for movement when Josiah Moreno reached out to cut a deal. An old friend, Devil could call him, though friends were few and far between in this business.

Really, Devil's soft spots were hard to make sense of anyway.

It was perhaps a bit too sunny out to tolerate the belly full of bloody Mary he'd taken down on the plane, but he made due with sunglasses and a too-friendly grin. "Josiah," he beamed. There was no point hiding the horns curling into his hair or the tail that swayed at his ankles-- Josiah knew who he was already.

"Is it hot out here or is it just you? Tell me you've got a pool."

being presented with the small trinket causes her to look at him , her eyebrows furrowing . she got the concept of exchanging gifts on holidays or birthdays , but from what she was aware of , no such things are happening . did she miss something ? she bites her splitting lip as she continues to mull this over in confusion , delving into the depths of her mind to ensure she didn't miss anything . as it is being lowered to rest along her neck , she instinctively gathers her hair out of the way to make it easier for him , as he stands behind her to do the clasp of the delicate chain with a simple charm hanging loosely from it . " t --- thank y --- you for the k --- kind gift , but . . . I h --- have n --- noth ---- nothing for y --- you .
