Doctor Who - Headcanon #1
Ten spends two years running from his fate after his goodbye to Wilfred, in the rain, in July of 2008. After he meets Eleven, he understands it is time to face the future. But not before a bit of fun. He doesn't remember why that is but he knows this is the last time those ears will ever experience true bliss, before they get bigger or smaller (somehow, he knows they'll get bigger). So he heads off to Venice, Italy, 1980, where Kate Bush and her crystalline voice await him. Then the show ends and it's not enough.
The Doctor has been a fan of Joan Baez for years and years. Last time he'd been to one of her gigs it was all big ears, big smile, buzzcut and leather jacket, Rose's warm hand holding his... Tonight his hand is cold and empty. But Joan's voice is like a blanket and a nice cuppa.
It's only fitting, he guesses, that the last word of the last song he will hear on what must be his last night, is the name that's been haunting him since the night in the rain. She was where fun began and where fun ended, after all.
Donna, Donna, Donna, Donna
Donna, Donna, Donna, Don
Donna, Donna, Donna, Donna
Donna, Donna, Donna, Don
He leaves with a heavy heart, before the echo of the last notes, because, as we all know, the Doctor hates endings.
He soaks in the cruel irony when Wilfred's blue eyes, akin to his granddaughter's, bore into his from the other side of the glass.
When the Doctor is getting his reward, and the wedding bells chime and Donna screams and laughs ungracefully, clad in that white dress, he realizes he was wrong yesterday: now is the last time those ears will ever experience true bliss.
