We are loving the freedom of "home schooling" this year, which we mostly do outside! The trails seem to be less occupied again and we've been taking garbage sacks along to clean up as we hike. There's a ton of trash on our trails here in Utah from the Covid rush. This is our "forest school" where we spend no less than 7.5 hours outside up the canyon with one family we've been isolating with. Last week we learned how to identify trees by their leaves, knife safety and how to carve and safely start and put out a fire. “Weeds” is a relatively Western term. Did you know that in the Eastern philosophy, there’s no such thing as a weed? They recognize that every plant has a purpose specific to it’s creation. 🤩 What we consider weeds, such as dandelion for example, is actually used for a whole list of ailments from aiding in the detoxification of your liver to reducing your cholesterol and inflammation. Swipe for the toothy grin! I can’t help it. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Valley of Fire. Sure, everyone gets that iconic shot (and I did too, trust me) but there were three different sets of photographers and gals in dresses, trespassing after sundown just to get “the” shot. If you’re on Instagram, you know the one. I don’t blame them. In another life, I’d have done the same, but I didn’t forget to actually explore this beautiful piece of Western America. I hope you don’t forget to, either. I’m excited to show you all the fascinating petroglyphs and weatherworn stones that withstand immense heat day after day, and the durable plants that dare to grow there.
