As someone interested in the Papa Jinbei AU but with very little knowledge of One Piece, what kind of dad do you think Jinbei would be to his boys?
he would be a super doting father who literally never stops talking about his boys (like the scene in canon where jinbei tells his crew “i want to join the straw hats and dedicate my life to luffy” and aladdin is like “bitch we been knew” because he literally did not stop talking about luffy for two straight years, after meeting him once)
but at the same time he’s very strict with them, at least when it comes to training. because as a fishman, and more than that as a member of the sun pirates, he knows exactly how evil the world is, and he wants to make sure his boys are strong enough to survive in this world with their goodness and kindness intact. he wants his boys to be the bridge that finally connects fishmen and humans as one species (because fishmen are human, no matter how much the celestial dragons say otherwise)
given that jinbei is a pirate, luffy and the others would have spent a lot of time on the seas, i think. jinbei wouldn’t have taken them on every voyage, but they would have travelled with the sun pirates a lot, especially once jinbei became a warlord (because he wouldn’t have to worry about marines anymore, and most pirates also hesitate to attack warlords given they have the world government backing them). and while they were out on sea, jinbei and the other sun pirates would train them in fighting and haki.
(just realized this means that luffy would now fishman karate. can you imagine him busting out his moves against arlong lmao.)
when the brothers aren’t sailing with the sun pirates, i think they would live with the neptune family? because king neptune finds out early on that luffy has a knack for keeping his daughter calm and feeling safe.
