A party that is out of ideas and afraid to admit its mistakes finds comfort in pursuit of traitors, scapegoats and in conspiracy theory, say

Conspiracy theories of the Blob, the establishment Elite preventing the government from implementing its policy is easier than admitting they can’t implement levelling up, taxing and spending because of their reliance on their donors, who are from big business.

Conspiracy by the Establishment Elite (which expanded to include everyone from lefty lawyers to tofu eating Guardian readers) meant they couldn’t implement Brexit not because it was unachievable but because the establishment Blob prevented it. Not because Johnson created a mess of ministers promoted only for loyalty not ability. Not because of his lies leading us into a dead end of red tape and economic and business failures. Not because Truss implemented destructive policies and crashed the economy.

Dorries syndrome is laughable but has the kernel of Tory conspiracy theorists hope. Blame others for our lack of achievement (89 seat major) not own incompetence and not our lies.
