if you’re trying to say that they’re cutting out strong female characters and this is that trend then please don’t

Why? You don't think they have a tendency to fuck up female characters and reduce them to nothing more than a shadow of what they are in the books? You don't think it's outrageous that they cut out Arianne Martell and named Trystane as the heir to Dorne instead of her? Please tell me why critiquing them is a bad idea, I'd love to hear it.

1. Are you that kind of person that looks up when hears a plane above?No, not usually. I was that person after 9/11 for a while but I'm over it. 

2. Do you have a secret that you have never told anyone?  No,  because I just recently told it and it was very freeing. I wish I had known what a weight telling it would lift off my shoulders years ago.

3. What do you like about yourself most and what do you hate? I like that I know who, what and when to let go. I hate that I still trust people too easily and expect them to treat me as I would treat them.

4. What is the most awkward thing you have ever done? I refused to dance with a salsa instructor in front of a restaurant full of people celebrating my anniversary-I have a chronic disease that made it impossible at the time and yet the woman just wouldn't get off my back!

6. What is your idea of a perfect weekend? Snuggled up in a remote snowy mountain cabin with my hubby.

7. Describe your relationship with your parents? 

Well, I never knew my father, only of him, so to speak. My mother and I have reached a place where I have accepted that she will never be the mother I need but I will take what she is able to give and try to understand her rather than expend a lot of energy of resentment-it's not an easy path to go down, let me tell you.

8. What do you study/how are you doing at school/work? I have loong been out of school but I like to study art, Scandinavian culture and history, geology, WW2 history and some American history as well. In school I was often bored, to be honest, though I was a very good student-I just wasn't challenged and it was often mistaken for apathy until I had two teachers who finally figured me out! ;)

9. What do you think about religion/are you a believer?  I only discuss religion in a mutually respectful interaction because I feel that is the only productive way to do so, and I refrain from commenting in a public way about it for this reason.

10. You can travel in time, back or forward, any place you wish - what do you do? 

I would travel back in time to prevent the various genocides, pogroms, wars, etc-I often think that mankind could never truly comprehend the potential within those unfinished lives. I cannot help but wonder if the cure for cancer, for example, has died within these unfinished lives? There is a treasure of humanity that has been lost, and with them, unimaginable potential. I would travel forward to find the cure for my own illness.

11. How are you with others? Do you care about other people, do you do good with them, do you enjoy a company?

I do very well with people and get along with almost everyone but I find large parties a bit overwhelming-I prefer small intimate settings to get to know people. I care almost a bit too much about others, and this quality at times has allowed a lot of misery into my life, but I don't regret it-I would rather feel hurt than complete apathy toward others.

Hi, may I ask you a question? A buch of questions, actually - you seem to be very fond of SanSan ship and I want to know why, what makes you like them that much and how do you see the ship, how would it look like if they ever end up together and what is you favourite head canon or AU, just tell me everything, haha :) Like what are your thoughts about them, I want to know how people see them.

Of course! These are awesome questions. I tried to make this short but it didn’t work out lol.

First of all I enjoy Sansan because it turns the trope of the knight rescuing the maiden on its proverbial ear. Sandor is no true knight, and while he points this out every opportunity he gets, it is Sansa’s innocence that breaks through his barriers and makes him want to be the man who rescues her. And though he believe strong arms and steel rule the world, it is Sansa’s kindness and prayer, the two things he derides, that ultimately save Sandor Clegane.

I’m well aware that people call it a “creepy ship” (which I am not fond of in referencing Sansan, since Sansan shippers haven’t adopted the term the way Thramsay/ Petyr/Sansa shippers have) and some shippers are attracted to it because of this. I do not judge anyone harshly for their reasons for shipping because we all have our own personal reasons for doing so and as long as people are comfortable with their own ship, it’s all good.

I see the ship this way: Sandor and Sansa are drawn to each other based on shared suffering, longing for a family connection, a desire for life beyond their present situations and fear for the future.They admire and draw strength from each other, though they don’t admit it to themselves until after they are parted.

In KL Sandor sees Sansa as a child, a beautiful little bird trapped by manipulating evil people obsessed with the game of thrones who, despite her naivete, is still able to maintain her dignity and sweet nature. She endures horrific suffering without losing her innocence and her basic belief in the good of people. She’s able to resist being turned into a monster, something Sandor believes he was unable to do, and he wants her to be able to hang on to those qualities while learning from her experiences. It gives him hope to see her do this and is unable to resist the urge to protect her, even though it could cost him his life.

Sansa sees in Sandor the strength, power and determination that she wishes she possessed. She draws strength, the will to keep going, to endure, to survive from his memory,  and in this way Sandor saves her, even though he is not physically present. He is everything she thought a knight should not be and yet he saves her just the same, and thus gives Sansa the will to save herself. 

Both characters are in a desperate place during the first two books and this leads to tense, disturbing encounters between the two that are initiated by Sandor, particularly when he is drunk or frightened. The conditions under which these take place are very telling, as is Sansa’s reactions to them, both as they are taking place and her memories of them in the future.

They have a powerful connection (perhaps otherworldly?) that is so strong they are never far from each other’s thoughts even in the worst of times. The relationship they had in KL has only deepened in the minds of the characters and become more profound to them as the books progress, even though they haven’t physically been together since ACOK, their feelings grow for each in spite of distance, time and tremendous upheaval in both of their lives.

Sex is NOT the foundation for their connection, so for me, the age difference and other aspects deemed “creepy” in ACOK simply don’t matter, because while the connection between them starts when Sansa is young, Sandor DOES NOT act upon it. GRRM moved both of them past it and as readers, we need to do likewise and instead focus on the bond they share, for it is the foundation of a deeper relationship that matures with each character.

What appeals to me about the ship is where GRRM will take this unique relationship. The manifestation of the realizations on the part of each character has yet to be determined in canon. GRRM has made it so it will not happen until both characters are more mature and stable emotionally and physically.

For me, it doesn’t even really matter if their relationship never turns sexual, (though as a shipper I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to see it mature to that level), it will not detract from the beauty of their deep connection or take away from the profound influence they have on each other.

*unpopular opinion time* While I think it’s healthy to recognize the serious problems within the ship, It cannot be ignored that Sansa does not focus on Sandor’s  abusive, “creepy”  behavior but instead draws comfort from his memory. In truth, I don’t believe that she is as traumatized by Sandor as some in the fandom seem to be. This likely comes from the fans inserting their own experiences with abuse into the story, and while this is natural, it does not reflect Sansa’s true feelings on the matter.

This is no way excuses Sandor’s mistreatment of Sansa. In fact, it appears Sandor is the one who suffers from the memory of his behavior, not Sansa. Just one example post ACOK:

And the little bird, your pretty sister, I stood there in my white cloak and let them beat her.

I took the bloody song. She never gave it.

Will they need to work things out in the future in order to have the basis for a healthy friendship/intimate relationship? Yes, absolutely, but it is not the only issue in this pairing that needs to be considered.

They need to have more going for their relationship than the shared comfort they derived in the memory of one another; they will need to learn to relate to each other entirely differently than they did before in KL. Both characters need agency, maturity, a measure of mental and physical health as well as peace that they have carved out for themselves individually. That is why it was so necessary for them to be separated in canon, so each character can grow before their relationship progressed further. 

My headcanon for endgame Sansan is that after Sansa escapes the Vale and Sandor is rehabilitated on the QI (both physically and emotionally) that they will come together as two mature human beings with agency and self determination, who choose to be together based on love, not on the past.

As for their respective places in the game of thrones, it doesn’t matter to me how or where they end up, as long as it is of their own choosing and that they find a measure of happiness.

Relationship-wise, I’d like to see Sandor and Sansa build on what began in KL and come to an even deeper understanding of one another. Ideally they would develop a friendship of sorts first and make it the catalyst for the rest of their interactions. I would like to see this friendship/mutual admiration and respect naturally grow into romance and sex as the culmination of their feelings, as the icing on the cake, and for them to forge a strong, lifelong bond and commitment.
