You can hate me or think this idea comes from an extreme place of privilege. But no matter who you are, you can not pour from an empty cup. Activism doesn't always look like marches, or blocking traffic, or screaming at each other on Instagram. Activism is also getting out of bed when you have nothing left to give. It is providing space and listening to a friend who's hurting. And in a world trying to swallow you whole, activism can even be taking a nap, writing poetry, or ordering take out without berating yourself for not cooking the food that's going bad in your fridge. I know as a thin white woman, me telling you that it's ok to practice self care (whatever that looks like to you) sounds super privileged. But I promise you, no matter who you are, no one can stay at 100 forever. You have to rest. You have to sleep. You have to eat. You have to have social interactions with loved ones. You have to smile. You have to laugh. And you have to love. Because if you don't, the world will blow out your candle and the bright flame of your activism will be lost to those who need it most. My loves, this is a long fight. Protect your heart. Protect your soul. Fight as hard as you possibly can. And build up the base of fighters around you. So when you do need that rest day, all of us other flames are waiting right behind you to continue burning in your place. • I love you. You are enough. Your existence is enough.
