Lucifer is back from what felt like hell (but was actually During and Post-War France) and is ready to reclaim Melbourne as his home. And what better way, than to help the police solve a murder and look good while doing it?
Honestly, he saw Detective Inspector Chloe Decker (the first female police officer in Australia) as someone he could seduce and forget once the case was solved. But Chloe seems decidedly immune to his charms - which only makes her all the more desirable.
If he’s going to be staying in town for a while, he may as well open his own detective agency and fill his lavish house with all the trappings a Lord should have - they don’t call him the Baron of Rich for nothing.
Ella and Mazikeen were heaven-sent. One: a discerning young lady’s maid with a steady hand and a quiet intelligence. The other: a woman with an unknown history and a mean right hook who can also make an incredible cappuccino.
And of course, Linda and Amenadiel fall into his lap as more friends on the ground, people unafraid to get their hands dirty - which is good, because much of his investigation techniques aren’t strictly “by the book”.
When not “pestering the inspector” (as Constable Dan likes to quote back to him), Lucifer spends his nights setting the town ablaze. Not literally. Well, there was this one time that involved a belly dancer from Thailand, a bottle of cognac, and a bit of wax play that got out of hand.
After spending so much of his life attending to the needs of others and facing death every day, all he wants to do is live.
And yet, he continues to find himself drawn to Chloe, this woman who seems all seriousness and sharp corners, but indulges his every whim.
Trixie (whom he loves like his own child but has a wisdom that sometimes frightens him) thinks it’s just about the rejection - no one has ever refused a night with him - but Lucifer has found a kinship with Chloe all these months working together.
If he were ever so inclined to fall in love, it might be with her.
