“That’s a neat trick~ Do you use whistles for all your commands? Or is that just how you let them know its time to fight?” The male hummed, his amused aura having remained in place despite the very clear threat that had been thrust onto him. He appeared to be so at ease with the presence of the now aggravated Weavile, that he did not even raise his hands as a means of ushering them away. He simply stood before them with his hands tucked into his pockets, and what could only be described as an oblivious expression plastered on his face. The phrase ‘smile like an idiot’ came to mind while looking at him. The woman scoffed to herself as she reached up to tighten her ponytail. Not for any particular reason. Such was just another means of occupying her hands for a moment while she was on edge. This was a very bad habit of hers.
“You!... Honestly, you’re gettin’ on my nerves!” The woman grumbled, fighting the urge to cuss as she began to snap her fingers. In a way she was physically answering the man’s question by continuing to give her Pokemon instructions on what to do from there. She snapped for the sake of getting the attention of the Weavile. The Pokemon tensed and flexed their claws, each of them taking a moment to glance over at their trainer.
“Catch!” She commanded, offering a single snap of her fingers. The Weavile rushed at the man before she had even bothered to try and lower her arm; and in a way, she was surprised to find that the trespasser offered nothing akin to a struggle. He merely held out his arms to allow the Pokemon to wrap their claws around them. When they yanked on him, he casually dropped onto his knees as an act of submission. Really, nothing about his behavior indicated at him seeming to believe that there was any danger. To be frank, there honestly wasn’t. She was irritated with him but she was not going to encourage her Pokemon to senselessly lash out at him just because she wanted him gone. Now if he suddenly turned around and gave her a reason to try and punch his teeth in, of course he would wind up finding out just how much power the Weavile could put into their bite. She groaned quietly upon hearing him laugh.
“Alright, they caught me~ Now what?” The male inquired, appearing to find the situation more enjoyable than concerning. The woman found herself pinching the bridge of her nose out of irritation. Honestly, this entire scenario was exhausting in its own right. He could at least look a little unnerved, all things considered.
“Hun, you’re makin’ it real difficult for me to feel at ease with the idea of throwin’ you off my land. You’re actin’ like a puppy that doesn’t have any idea ‘bout why they’re getting scolded.” The woman commented, crossing her arms once she finished crushing the bridge of her nose. The male offered a laugh at this as he flashed her a surprisingly affectionate smile. He really was smiling like an idiot; he almost seemed happy to be restrained the way he was. Was this some sort of a masochist looking for an easy punishment? This was not the right time for such a bold visit, if such were the case.
“Change your attitude. I’m standin’ here startin’ to feel like a bitch.” She requested, allowing her usual attempts at proper language to drop. This man was so laid back that she honestly felt that using a few curses wouldn’t falter his optimism. If anything she expected him to laugh. Lo and behold, he did; but she could not tell if it was directed at her language or at her unusual request.
“Well, sorry ‘bout that Ma’am but I don’t plan on getting beat up today~” The male retorted in a playful manner, shifting to the best of his ability so that he could sit with his legs crossed. She could not help but sigh at this. What an unusual person. She found herself both incredibly irritated and simply perplexed by their odd behavior. Past experience with trespassers would dictate that he was either there to pick a fight or give her an ‘offer to good to refuse’; but thus far he was not acting according to either of those stereotypes. Finding it absolutely pointless to continue with using this amount of force, she snapped her fingers again to catch the Weaviles’ attention, then pointed to her feet.
“Come.” She commanded, watching as the Weavile released the male and tentatively approached her. No doubt they were confused about why she had wanted them to be aggressive in the first place if she was only going to let the man go so easily. Really, she would have to admit that she was a little to quick to misjudge the situation. This man was trespassing but he wasn’t being aggressive. Really he wasn’t behaving anything like the people who had trespassed here in the past. His odd behavior confused her and that was enough to make her second guess her behavior up to this point. If he really did have a detestable motive, she would have to give him some credit; he was good at catching her off guard. Regrettably, she had to admit that she could respect that sort of a trait in a person. At least when it came to reinforcing a negative opinion.
“Awe, letting me go already~?” The male mused, casually unfolding his legs so that he could push himself back into a standing position. She rolled her eyes as she watched him idly dust the dirt off of his rear and legs. Of course he would show more concern for the state of his clothing than for his well being. Or at least such was how he had made it look, considering his behavior.
“Just tell me why you’re here so I can get rid of you.” She grumbled, only to sigh softly as the Weavile each took to nuzzling her side. She found herself putting her hands atop their heads to pet them affectionately. By any guess, they were concerned and attempting to offer comfort; as such she needed to try and reassure her that things were alright. It was her fault for sending out such mixed signals. She would have to apologize to them for it later. Looks like she would wind up sharing her red-potatoes with them after all. Honestly she felt like she owed them a treat at this point. The man chuckled at this, folding his arms behind his head again.
“Oh, I’m here for you~” He stated, the usual humor of his tone seeming to fade ever so slightly to make room for his serious expression. At this point it was safe to say that the woman was contemplating sending her Pokemon after him again, considering that his phrase was downright creepy no matter how one decided to look at the context. If not for his behavior, she might have thought that he was there to kidnap her. To be fair; that would be the ideal means of catching her off guard long enough to knock her out and drag her off. She she either had to call him amazing at giving mixed signals, or an idiot for being so laid back. Her expression was sure to hint at her lack of amusement.
“I’ll need a little more context than that. You sound like a pervert.” She retorted, her tone making it all the more clear that she was not enjoying this situation. At least she could say that petting her Pokemon provided the best means of indulging in her bad habit of hand-distraction without making it stand out. From an onlookers perspective, it would just look like she was cuddling with a pair of affectionate Pokemon. The reality being that she was doing that and also taking times to use the feel of their feathery ears as a means of distracting the parts of her mind that needed something to fixate on. The man laughed at this, lowering his arms so that he could put his hands back in his pockets.
“Sorry, thought you’d prefer it if I was blunt.” He stated, abruptly dropping his playful behavior entirely for the sake of bringing about a casual air. Admittedly caught off guard by this, the movement of the woman’s hands came to an abrupt halt as she raised an eyebrow. This man was incredibly difficult to read. This would either be a good thing or a bad thing.
“Like I said; I’m here for you. I came all the way from Alola just to find you.” He uttered, staring at her with an oddly pleased expression. To say that this was a little bit of a surprise would have been an understatement. She had had potential clients fly out from other regions before; but currently, she did not have any connections in Alola. Outside of what would appear on the news from time to time, she had little to no information on the people or on the Pokemon which resided in that secluded region of the world; and this was unfortunate. She would love to see the one place in the world where Variational Pokemon appeared to have come about naturally. Of course she would be eager to study the environments that had triggered these distinct changes in the Pokemon that had come to be stranded there so many years ago. So she found it incredibly difficult to believe that this man had come all the way from Alola, just to find her.
Her lack of connections also meant that no one there would have any idea as to who she was. So unless this man happened to know one of her past clients; which was also incredibly unlikely; it aught to have been impossible for him to have any idea as to who she was. Or what she did, for that matter. So he was either lying about being from Alola, or there was some sort of a miracle at play here. Call her a skeptic, but she was leaning more towards the first option.
“Sorry to be skeptical, but I find that hard to believe. As is, I don’t have any ties to Alola. I haven’t managed to get into contact with any of the professors out there.” She said flatly, only to earn a playful laugh from the man. It would seem that his childish energy could come and go at the flip of a switch; and that was probably what made it so impossible for her to figure out how she was supposed to respond to this guy. She wanted to be angry; and honestly she probably had the right to be; but she was finding it difficult to be mean to him without feeling like an ass for doing so. His behavior was entirely to blame for it. She had ignored half of her comments and pretended to be oblivious the rest; and his childish aura was there to act like some sort of a safety barrier. She probably would have tried to smack him if it wasn’t for how oddly innocent he managed to come across as. She really did feel like she was speaking to a child. That was probably what made her so compliant.
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense~” He mused, tilting his head ever so slightly as he flashed her another affectionate smile. Honestly, she had no idea as to why he was able to look at her with such a familiar gaze. She had no idea as to who he was or why he was actually there; but his expression made it clear that he somehow recognized her from somewhere. This, again, was something that she considered to be impossible. Especially if his words were somehow the truth; which she doubted.
“But I really am from Alola. I don’t know the Professor personally, but I have met him. You sorta have to do that if you want to start collecting Pokemon. Its like a right of passage out there.” He added, somehow returning to his casual manner of speech without falter. The woman sighed and shook her head, finding that she needed to pet her Pokemon after all if she wanted to be able to focus.
“Hate to be crude, but I honestly can’t say that I believe you. Unless you’ve got some sort’ve proof to back up your story I’m just gonna walk away and ask one of my Pokemon to make you leave.” She retorted, falling back onto the original threat that had started this ridiculous conversation. This time when the man laughed, she could guess that it related to that.
“Didn’t you try that already only change your mind~?” He commented, taking clear amusement in the fact that the conversation appeared to come full circle for a moment. Starting with one subject then taking a series off odd twists and turns before eventually returning to the original topic. That being that she wanted him to leave and that she would have a Pokemon forcibly remove him if he did not comply. Chances were that she would not carry through with this threat, and instead trust that he would annoy her Pokemon enough to chase him off. If he had the gall to try and spend the night on her property he just might amuse her enough to get her to let him inside. He was strange alright; but in town, it was a running joke that she lacked any sort of common sense. Really, she would just want to find out exactly why he was being so persistent with getting into contact with her.
“But, if its proof that you need, I did bring a few things just in case you didn’t believe me. I don’t know if you’ve heard of ‘Poke-beans’ yet, but they’re a sort of exotic treat that can only be obtained in Alola. They taste pretty good and Pokemon love them~” He stated, reaching into a small pack that was attached to his belt. She failed to recall the proper term for that small bag, and as such decided to mentally refer to it as a ‘man purse’ due to its shape and size. When he withdrew his hand to offer onto her the oddly shaped ‘treats’. Still skeptical, she raised an eyebrow as she peered up at the man; who shook his head ever so slightly and laughed.
“And because that might not be enough proof, I’m perfectly willing to show you the Pokemon I brought with me from Alola. It’ll at least prove that I’ve been there~” He mused, pulling a Pokeball from the same pack to show it off to her. Now, this admittedly had her attention. She did know about the Beans and understood that they were native to Alola; but she had been hearing news of these odd treats being imported. So while the Beans themselves could potentially discredit his story as a result; having a Pokemon that was native to the Alola region would be a completely different story.
“Lets see it then. Show me a Pokemon that can only be found in Alola.” She stated. If he happened to be bluffing, then she was going to be disappointed; but if not, then she would be a little more willing to believe his story. Having a Pokemon from Alola did not automatically mean that he was from there, but it would definitely imply that he had either been to that region, or that he had been in contact with someone who was. So she was definitely interested in what was in the ball.
