I get it, I am a Boomer (barely, on the younger end). I do connect better with Gen X, but act more like a Millennial or even a toddler. But there are a few things I do that people can roll their eyes at or even say, “Okay, Boomer.”

OMG I AM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS!!

I just found this feature in Word. You can customize your Grammar Settings to look for needed Oxford Commas, punctuation with quotes, and my favorite - space between sentences!

While I’m a millennial, I learned to type on these weird typewriter/not typewriters called AlphaSmart 2000 in sixth grade (for reference, these were released in 1997, and we were using them in 2001-2002). We had a computer lab, but there weren’t enough computers for a whole class so half the class would be in the library while the other was using the computers. Either that or we were sharing, but that was usually just when we had free computer time to play Kid Pix, Math Blaster II, or Oregon Trail II. If I remember correctly, it had weird sentence spacing issues that required two spaces. Either that or our teacher just taught us the typewriter way. I know this is one of those things that is no longer “correct,” but it’s a habit that has been so hard to break.

Pro tip: Using two spaces between sentences makes it looks like you learned to type on a typewriter which means people may think you’re older, for better or for worse. And some people have really strong opinions about it!

You can get to the settings mentioned above by clicking File in the top left corner. Then Options at the bottom of the left menu that has appeared. In the Word Options pop-up window, select Proofing from the menu. Find where it says Writing Style just above the Recheck Document box, and click Settings... Scroll all the way down for the settings I mentioned above, though there may be others you want to check out!
