like if u’ve known me for a while, u know that i love spacebar. its basically like a syd meme, like its a punchline with me. but good god, guys. it cuts right to my heart every single time. it’s such a silly play, it’s so goofy at parts and also like legitimately laugh out loud funny, but the character of kyle sugarman is just so special. i saw so much of myself in him when i first read and i still do all these years later. just that raw nerve under the passion and persistence and heart, that hurt that is silently motivating everything. “i just want someone to take me seriously”. this hurting, broken kid who is still so fucking exuberant and painfully honest and sweet and naive. and coping with it thru art, even if that art’s not particularly good. fuck, man. this play not only brought me back from the brink after gwen died and renewed my love for Making Stuff, it saved my life. like unironically, unequivocally saved my stupid life. it’s so silly, it’s so small and unassuming and goofy, but it bleeds. spacebar, i love u
