Apple sanal gerçeklik araştırmacısı Doug Bowman’ı işe aldı

Teknoloji dünyasının devleri, sanal gerçeklik konusundaki çalışmalarında yavaş yavaş vites yükseltiyor. The Financial Times ’ta yer alan habere göre, Apple sanal gerçeklik çalışmaları için ABD ’nin önde gelen uzmanlarından Doug Bowman ile anlaştı. Virginia Tech Üniversitesi ’nde bilgisayar bilimleri profesörü olarak görev yapan Bowman, bir süre önce ücretli izne ayrılmıştı. Bowman, Virginia Tech Üniversitesi ’nde insan-bilgisayar etkileşim merkezinin direktörlüğünü üstlenmişti.

Bowman, araştırmasını üç boyutlu kullanıcı arayüzü tasarımı ve sanal çevrelerde sarmalayıcı deneyimin faydaları üstüne kurduğunun ipucunu daha önce vermişti. Yeni Apple çalışanının HTC Vive ve Google Cardboard gibi sanal gerçeklik teknolojilerinin yanı sıra, Google Glass gibi artırılmış gerçeklik teknolojileri konusunda da tecrübesi bulunuyor.

Apple, geçtiğimiz yıllar boyunca sanal gerçeklik pazarında elini güçlendirecek satın alma işlemleri gerçekleştirmişti. Sanal gerçeklik çevreleriyle ilgili patent başvuruları yapan Cupertino merkezli şirket, çalışan kadrosunu da bu teknolojiye uygun biçimde genişletmişti. Apple, son olarak yüz ifadeleri ve his bölümleri üzerine çalışan Emotient ’i satın almıştı. Star Wars ’ta kullanılan hareket yakalama teknolojisini geliştiren Faceshift ve artırılmış gerçeklik uygulamaları konusunda uzmanlaşan Metaio, geçtiğimiz yıl Apple bünyesine katılmıştı.

Apple ’ın sanal ve artırılmış gerçeklik çalışmaları konusunda geri kaldığı düşüncesi pek çok kişi tarafından dile getiriliyor. Şirket beş yıl önce en önemli sanal gerçeklik uzmanlarından birini Google ’a kaptırmıştı. Apple ’ın sanal gerçeklik teknolojisinden nasıl faydalanacağı şu an için belirsizliğini koruyor.
